The physical and mechanical parameters of some exotic tossa Jute (JRO 632, JRO-878, JRO-524) and recommended tossa Jute of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (O-9897, OM-1, O-4) were studied. The variety O-9897 (Corchorus olitorius) produced the highest fiber yield (4.29) ton ha‾1. The same variety produced higher grade fibre (BTB+) with the lowest percentage of cutting (7.50%) significantly. The highest value of fibre strength was observed in the same variety (10.98 lbs mg‾1). Fibre strength varied from 6.65 to 13.38 lbs mg‾1. Some exotic variety showed poor germination, pre mature flowering and disease infestation

Studies on harvest index, genetic parameters, variability and correlation among different characters of 23 germplasms along with three control variety of Corchorus capsularis were conducted. The highest plant height (3:37m), base diameter (23: 33mm) and harvest index (32: 79) were found in the control variety VCL-1. Dry weight of leaf (12:45gm), dry weight of stick (64:13gm) and total dry matter were the highest in acc. no. 2271. Genetic variations were observed among the germplasms for plant height, base diameter, total dry matter and harvest index. Higher harvest index was found in the control variety CVL-1. No high yielding germplasm having higher harvest index could be identified from the germplasms studied. For all characters, phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation. Plant height, base diameter and dry weight of bark were positively correlated with harvest index.

  The present investigation deals with the effect of nickel chloride supplementation on the growth of Bombyx mori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae). The weights of mature Bombyx mori L. larvae were 1522.10 ± 78.97, 1579.67 ± 61.29, 1685.13 ± 61.77, 1781.60 ± 66.62, 1801.60 ± 60.69 and 1426.07 ± 89.48 mg for nickel chloride at 0 (Control), 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 ppm, respectively. The weights of male and female pupae were 648.03 ± 37.97 and 763.57 ± 55.44, 667.50 ± 51.10 and 774.23 ± 54.33, 682.60 ± 61.78 and 811.47 ± 61.13, 712.23 ± 42.46 and 841.33 ± 63.04, 746.77 ± 45.73 and 871.30 ± 50.47, 618.40 ± 30.61 and 713.70 ± 63.16 mg for nickel chloride for above applied doses. The weights of male and female adults were 300.67 ± 70.07 and 546.27 ± 61.67, 317.63 ± 42.98 and 559.50 ± 76.87, 331.90 ± 48.93 and 571.50 ± 80.46, 352.00 ± 55.14 and 597.67 ± 56.53, 373.17 ± 46.53 and 645.23 ± 55.34, 283.40 ± 43.89 and 514.27 ± 75.83 mgs for nickel chloride for above applied doses. The weights of male and female cocoons were 752.07 ± 31.70 and 87.17 ± 55.50; 769.23 ± 49.84 and 889.10 ± 50.40, 795.53 ± 61.69 and 937.10 ± 59.70, 841.33 ± 42.25 and 970.53 ± 62.33, 856.93 ± 48.50 and 979.63 ± 44.09, 717.27 ± 32.13 and 822.13 ± 64.96 mg for nickel chloride at 0(Control), 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 ppm, respectively. The results were statistically significant (P<0.001) among the concentrations. From the above results it may be concluded that nickel chloride can be used at low concentrations for enhancing the economic character of silkworm, Bombyx mori L.

The purpose of the present study is to build the model to expectation of life (ex) associated with age for male of Bangladesh. For this, the expectation of life (ex) for male population of Bangladesh in the census years of 1974, 1981 and 1991 have been used in this study. A few mathematical models have been tried to fit to ex for male of Bangladesh and it is found that they follow polynomial models. The Cross Validity Prediction Power (CVPP) and F-test are also applied to these models to check the validity and significance of the models.

In this study an effort has been given attention to establish a mathematical relationship between rate of increase of food and rate of population growth of Malthus`s Theorem. It is seen that Malthus`s Theorem of rate of increase of food and rate of population growth follows positive exponential model. To verify the stability of the model, Cross Validity-Prediction Power (CVPP) is applied in this study. It is found that the coefficient of determination of the fitted model is 100% and the fitted model is also100% stable. And its all parameters are also highly significant.

The purpose of the present study is to study the differentials, patterns and trends of life table surviving functions (lx) of Bangladesh during 1961-1991. For this, the surviving functions (lx) of Bangladesh in the census years 1961, 1974, 1981 and 1991 have been taken from Islam (2003). In this study it is also examined the low risk, high risk and very high risk ages of a life of Bangladesh.

The purpose of this study is to observe the trends of some fertility measures of Bangladesh. For this, the secondary data of various Censuses of 1961, 1974, 1981 and 1991 and Islam (2003) have been used. Fertility measures such as crude birth rate (CBR) for male, female and both sexes, general fertility rate (GFR), child woman ratio (CWR), replacement index (J) and vital index (VI) have been estimated. And intercensal growth rate has also been estimated. The trends of these measures are observed in this study.

The purpose of the present study is to study the differentials, patterns and trends of age specific death rates (ASDRs) of Bangladesh during 1961-1991. To fulfil the aim of this study, the ASDRs of Bangladesh in the census years 1961, 1974, 1981 and 1991 have been taken from Islam.

For this, the expectation of life (ex) of Bangladesh in the census years 1961, 1974, 1981 and 1991 have been used in this study. The Cross-Validity Prediction Power (CVPP) and F-test are also applied to these models to check the validity and significance of the models.

HIV/AIDS is a recent phenomenon and is the most influential cause of death worldwide.Alarmingly, the face of HIV/AIDS is growing with epidemic concern. It holds serious implications for entire national and regional economies. It ascertains a threat to livelihoods and to basic rights at work and also at production. Bangladesh is a low HIV prevalence country with several well documented at risk groups, the most prominent of which is brothel-based sex workers. The main victims and vulnerable are womenespecially commercial sex workers (CSWs). So, the main purpose of this study is to show that through CSWs is the main route of spreading HIV infection into the general population. The used data comes from a field survey at Tangail brothel, attempts to identify the important factors influencing HIV infection of women in brothels and their vulnerable condition as well as country’s population. The study results reveal that the CSWs are not sufficient aware about HIV infection and its spreading, women are more vulnerable than men and they are at greater risk. Increasing education level and the female condom supplement could reduce this risk substantially in a large context.

The purpose of this study is to study the socioeconomic, psychological and health characteristics of aged people in rural area of Natore District in Bangladesh. For this the primary data collected by purposive sampling interviewed method has been used as raw materials in this paper. Some statistical mechanisms such as frequency distribution, contingency analysis, c2-test and logistic regression model have been applied in this article. In this study, it is found that aged people are suffering from economic insecurity, unhealthy house structure, insufficient medical facility and home care, isolation, shortage of recreational instrument, shortage of balance diet and some psychological problems. Logistic analysis shows that mental status of aged population is positively influenced by land property, decision acceptance in family and getting pension (Boisko Bhata).
