The experiment was conducted in four cemented tanks of four guar genotypes i.e. S-807,
Esser, Brooks and S-1183, under different water regimes (control, pre-post flowering
stress, and terminal stress). The treatments were imposed at different stages of growth.
Photosynthetic efficiency was determined by measuring leaf area, chlorophyll content
and seed/yield. The findings show that water deficit reduced seed yield leaf area and
chlorophyll content in all four guar genotypes. However, the genotypes S-807 and Esser
had comparatively better performance than the other genotypes tested i.e. Brooks and S-1183. |

This article briefly describes common mineral imbalances affecting grazing ruminants at farms, their mineral requirements, factors affecting these requirements and different methods of detection of mineral status of the animal. The benefits and limitations of mineral analyses of soil, forage, animal tissues, and fluids samples for the purpose of identifying and preventing mineral disorders of grazing animals are discussed. The role of minerals as buffers, in immunity, as antioxidant and their bioavailability from various sources have also been described. |

Eighteen rice genotypes were grown in lysimeters with or without salinity (8.5 dSm-1) upto maturity. After 90 days of sowing three upper leaves of ten plants of each genotypes from each treatment and replicate (three replication) were excised and their leaf area and chlorophyll content were estimated. At maturity yield per plant was also recorded. The yield per plant, leaf area and chlorophyll contents of all the genotypes reduced by salinity. However, genotypes J-349, J-349 x Bas-385, NIAB-6, NR-I, RST-1-86 and RST-24 showed better performance than others. Positive correlations were found between grain yield per plant and chlorophyll contents. |

The effect of water stress on yield and yield components of two durum wheat varieties was studied at various growth stages, i.e. at vegetative, flowering or grain-filling stage and no stress (control). The decrease in grain yield per plant was more pronounced (72.62 percent) associated with a reduced number of grains per ear (59.62 percent) and 1000-grain weight (31.98 percent) under water stress applied at flowering stage. Stress at grain-filling stage was less effective than at vegetative and flowering stage in both varieties. Variety D-88628 was less affected which showed its adaptability under water stress conditions. |
