  The experiment was carried out at the orchard of jackfruit research project, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from July 2000 to October 2001 to find out the effect of age of rootstock and time of grafting on the success of epicotyl grafting in jackfruit. The experiment consists of three ages of rootstock viz., 7, 14 and 21 days and seven month of grafting viz., August, September, October of 2000 and April, May, June, July of 2001. It was conducted in randomized complete block design with three replications. Age of rootstock and time of grafting had significant effect on all the parameters studied. The highest success (39.84%), the minimum time required to bud break (18.78 days) and the highest survival (34.41%) were found in 14 days old rootstock. In case of time of grafting, the highest success (49.55%) and survival (45.47 %) and the maximum growth of grafts were observed in the month of June. On the contrary, the lowest success (10.08%) and survival (13.92%) were found in April. The maximum time required to bud break was found in the month of October (24.79 days) while it was minimum in July (20.72 days).The treatment combination of 14 days old rootstock in the month of June produced the highest success (57.33%), the highest survival (53.71%) and the growth of grafts. Therefore, 14 days old rootstock and grafting in the month of June is the best for the propagation of jackfruit through epicotyl grafting.

  Colchicine(0.05%) treated tissues of day-old larvae of Ompok pabda were observed under a research microscope after hydrolysis, mordanting and staining with 10% HCl, 2% aqueous solution of iron alum and 0.5% haematoxylin for 10 minutes, 6 minutes and 10 minutes respectively. Photomicrographs were taken from critically selected plates. From the photomicrographic enlarged prints chromosome number 2n=42 was counted, of which only 18 could be measured which consisted of 10 metacentric, 7 submetacentric and 1 subtelocentric. Length of the measured chromosomes varied from 1.1 to 3.9 μ .

  Shoot multiplication of Chrysanthemum morifolium was achieved from the nodal and shoot tip explants of mature plant using MS medium with different concentrations and combinations of growth regulators. Maximum frequency of explants produced axillary shoot and the highest number of shoots per explant were obtained when MS medium fortified with 1.0 mg l-1 BAP.The combination BAP+GA3 was found effective result. But Kinetin (Kn) showed low performance for producing multiple shoots. The degree of shoot formation was affected by explant types and the exogenous hormonal regime in the medium.

  Mixed inocula of Meloidogyne javanica and Sclerotium rolfsii in five different treatments including control were tested for the growth, yield, galling incidence and development of the nematode in groundnut. Progressively higher galling incidence and higher number of adult females and juvenile populations of M. javanica correspondingly with lower plant growth, nodulation and yield per plant were recorded from lower to higher levels of inocula ranging from 4-10 egg masses of M. javanica with 0.025 - 0.2% w/w of S. rolfsii . Galling incidence was negatively correlated with plant growth, nodulation and yield of groundnut.

  Bacteriological examination of septic wounds in animals was conducted in the Veterinary Clinic, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh during the period of January 2001 to July 2002. A total of 250 samples were collected for the identification of bacteria from the wound and 227 (90.8%) were found infected with bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus was the most common organism (33.92%) and then Escherichia coli (18.94%) and the lowest prevalence was the Streptococcus spp. (9.25%). In vitro drug sensitivity study revealed that Gentamycin, Cephalosporin, Neomycin and Streptomycin are potent antibiotic for the treatment of infected wound and Penicillin and Sulphamethaxazole are less sensitive to contaminated wound. For better conception and accurate treatment of complicated wounds, it is necessary to have cultural isolation of the microorganisms and antibiotic sensitivity of each isolate before the treatment.

  The experiment was conducted to find out morphological and reproductive variability in response to different sowing time and fertilizer treatments with two varieties of French bean under the agroclimatic conditions of Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Fertilizer treatments had significantly different effects on plant height, leaf number, leaf length and breath, days required for maximum flowering, number of flowers per plant and number of pods per plant. The interaction of sowing dates and varieties, had significant effects on the above characters except plant height. The best morphological and reproductive attributes performance were observed in January sowing and highest fertilizer treatments combination.

  The experiment was conducted to find out morphological and reproductive variability in response to different sowing dates and fertilizer treatments with two varieties of French bean under the agroclimatic conditions of Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The highest fertilizer treatment (90:50:120) produced the highest pod and seed yield per hectare. Fertilizer treatments had significantly different effects on pod length, number of seeds per pod, fresh pod weight per plant, dry seed weight per plant, pod yield and seed yield. The varieties differed significantly in respect to seed yield only. Yellow variety gave the highest seed yield per hectare. The January sowing gave the highest pod and seed yield. Seed sown in February failed to produce any fruit. The interaction of sowing dates and varieties had no significant effects on the above characters. The best morphological and reproductive characters performance were observed in January sowing and highest fertilizer treatments combination.
