  The study describes the effect of 2 commonly used inorganic fertilizers (Urea and TSP) on Michelia champaca Linn. seedlings in the nursery of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh with a view to standardize an optimum doze of inorganic fertilizers for raising quality seedlings. There were combinations of 16 treatments including a control one (NoPo). Seedlings were supplied 0, 50, 77 and 175 kg ha-1 of N and P of each in solution form in all possible combinations. Seedlings were evaluated for 22 weeks (150 days) in the nursery. Seedling mortality along with different growth parameters was measured. Different growth variables were also calculated. The fertilization that seedling growth was in general markedly better for fertilized one in comparison to the control one. Nitrogen additions significantly promoting the collar dia. increment and total dry matter production of seedlings experimented. Seedling mortality was not noticed. The  study suggested that application of nitrogen and phosphorus (77 kg N ha-1+ 77 kg P ha-1) on this type of soil (forest top soil collected from Chittagong University Campus) is necessary to boost the diameter and total dry matter production of M. champaca seedlings.

  In the present investigation the growth performance of Ipil-Ipil (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de wit.) seedling was studied under different conditions in the nursery. In dry season, the growth is poor, but starting the wet season, there was sharp rise in growth. In height and diameter growth, Seedbed under peat with cowdung mixture showed the best result, then polybag and plastic tray in all the media. In all types of containers, peat with cowdung mixture showed the best result. Similarly seedling growth performances showed good relation with seasonal variations. Leaf production also showed the same trend with seasonal variations as well as growth performance.

  The experiment was conducted to know the effect of seed treatment on the incidence of seed-borne fungal diseases and on production of seed yield of okra. The lowest germination (95.0%) was recorded in unclean farmer’s seeds; while highest germination (99.0%) was recorded in Vitavax-200 treated seeds followed by clean apparently healthy seeds (98.5%). Seed-borne fungal diseases of okra in the field, five diseases viz. Foot and root rot, Anthracnose and die-back, Cercospora leaf spot, Corynespora leaf spot and leaf blight, respectively caused by Fusarium oxysporum, Colletotrichum dematium, Cercospora abelmoschi, Corynespora cassiicola and Macrophonina phaseolina were recorded. The incidence of five seed-borne diseases have been found to be reduced by the use of seeds treated with Vitavax-200 and clean apparently healthy seeds. Vitavax–200 treated seeds as well as clean apparently healthy seeds increased the seed yield by 21.62 and 15.31%, respectively, over the unclean farmers’ seeds.
