  The optimum sucrose concentration and pH level were estimated for in vitro shoot regeneration from callus of Aralia elata Seem in a Broad-leaved tree (BT) medium with different concentrations of sucrose (0.0-25.0 g L-1) and a wide range of pH levels (4.5-6.8). The highest rate of shoot production was achieved in a shoot-regenerating medium with 15 g L-1 sucrose and a pH of 5.8. Shoot multiplication and growth were significantly affected by sucrose. Shoots were not formed in a sucrose-free medium. When the pH was adjusted below or above 5.8, the growth rate of the shoot significantly decreased.

  A mass in vitro propagation system for Phellodendron amurense Rupr., a medicinally important plant, has been developed. A range of a cytokinin, and auxins has been investigated for multiple shoot induction with hypocotyl, cotyledon, leaf, and internode explants. Adventitious shoot buds were induced successfully on MS basal media supplemented with various concentrations of BAP in combination of either NAA or IBA. The optimal induction of adventitious shoot buds occurred from all explants on MS media with 0.9 μM BAP, and 0.5 μM NAA or IBA. In the percentage of shoot formation, number of total shoots per culture, and usable shoots per culture, better results were obtained with hypocotyl explant, followed by cotyledon, leaf, and internode explants. Highest length of shoots was obtained with leaf explant, followed by cotyledon, hypocotyl, and internode explants. In vitro grown shoots rooted successfully on the MS media with 0.5-2.0 μM IBA, NAA, or IAA. Four subculture cycles were used, and after each subculture, percentage of shoot formation, total number of shoots, number of usable shoots, average length of shoots, percentage of root formation, total number of roots, and average length of roots per culture were recorded. Regenerants were transferred to Kanuma soil, and successfully established under ex vitro environment.

  Transient expression of the GUS gene has been demonstrated in somatic callus of the two varieties of Carica papaya cv. Shahi and Ranchi after co-cultivation with Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain LBA-4404 carrying a binary plastid vector system containing neomycin phosphotransferase gene as the selectable marker and -glucuronidase (GUS) as reporter gene. The mature embryonal axes were used as explants. The co-cultivated explants were transferred into final selection medium containing 500 mg L -1 carbenicillin + 200 mg L -1 cefotaxime + 50 mg L -1 kanamycin. The callus of C. papaya cv. Shahi showed highestGUS activity compared to C. papaya cv. Ranchi. The anatomical section of callus showed the positive GUS activity. All transformed callus grew vigorously in this medium and formed embryos followed by plantlets.

  Effects of sucrose, agar and pH on in vitro shoot multiplication of Chrysanthemum were studied. Nodal explant from the ex vitro grown plant was used as the test material. For optimum shoot induction and multiplication in MS medium containing BAP+ sucrose 30 gm l-1, agar 6 gm l-1 and pH 5.5-6.0 proved more effective. The media having 30 gm l-1 sucrose showed the highest percentage of explant responded to shoot proliferation and that was 100%. This sucrose concentration also showed the optimum result for number of usable shoots per culture, number of node shoot-1 and average length of shoots and the values were 5.4±0.6, 5.1±0.8 and 5.6±0.4 cm. The highest proliferation response of the explant was observed on MS medium having 6 gm l-1 of agar and the frequency was 100%. Among different level of pH, the highest percentage of explant showing proliferation was observed on the media adjusted to pH 5.5 and 6.0. The results presented here proved to be suitable for the in vitro shoot multiplication of Chrysanthemum morifolium.

  A highly reproducible in vitro shoot regeneration system in Aralia elata Seem. using root explants was developed in this investigation. Multiple shoots were induced in vitro directly from root explants through adventitious shoot bud regeneration. The ability of root explants to produce shoot buds depended on the supplementation of Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs). Maximum multiplication of shoots (18 shoots per explant) was achieved in a Broad-leaved Tree (BT) medium supplemented with 1.00 μM 6-benzyl aminopurine (BAP). The best and healthiest rooting was observed in a BT medium supplemented with 2.00 μM μ-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). Regenerated plants were successfully acclimatized under ex vitro condition.

  In this experiment the feeds and feeding, production and reproduction profile and herd management of spotted deer were studied in captive condition at Dhaka zoo. Data collected from forty deers, ten deers of each group consisting of adult male, adult female, juvenile and infant were studied January 15th to April 15th 2004 for a period of three months. Available feeds supplied to the spotted deer were maize fodder, para and bucksha grass, poi shak, cabbages, carrot, papaya, wheat bran and soybean meal. Amount of CP and metabolisable energy were 9.8% and 14.24 MJ ME per day, respectively. The average birth weight of males and females were 3.0 and 2.5 kg, adult males and females` weights were 80.44 and 57.6 kg, males and females weaning weights were 19.98 and 18 kg, respectively. It was also observed that the average weaning age, length of estrous, age at first fawning and gestation lengths were 5.02 months, 17.74 days, 14.32 months and 230.74 days, respectively. From the study it may be suggested that keeping balanced nutritive status the productive and reproductive parameters of the spotted deer at Dhaka zoo, recommended rations needs to be followed similarly efficient management systems needs to be developed.

  In this study, an attempt is made to study the distribution functions for simultaneous velocity, magnetic, temperature, concentration fields and reaction in MHD turbulent flow undergoing a first order reaction in presence of dust particles. The transport equations for evolution of distribution functions have been derived. The various properties of the distribution function have been discussed. Finally, a comparison of the obtained equation for one-point distribution functions with the first equation of BBGKY hierarchy of equations and the closure difficulty is to be removed as in the case of ordinary turbulence.

  The shoots of Rauvolfia serpentina from the field growing plants were used as explants and cultured on MS medium supplemented with 2.5 mg/L BA + 0.1 mg/L NAA to afford multiple shoots. It was evident that MS + 0.5 mg/L BA + 0.2 mg/L NAA was the most suitable combination for induction of callus and development of shoot buds formation but it failed to support elongation of shoot. So, the cultures with tiny shoots was transferred to 2.0 mg/L BA with 0.05mg/L NAA, where they showed excellent elongation. Regenerated shoots rooted well 0.2 mg/L IBA+ 0.2mg/L NAA combination. After having acclimatization the regenerated plantlets were transferred to the open field where 95% of the plant-lets survived and showed excellent growth.

  The study was conducted at dairy and cattle improvement farm, Hathazari, Chittagong for a period of one year. A total of 82 dairy cows were selected during the period from June 03-July 04 and their information regarding milk production upto 180 days, productive and other reproductive parameters were recorded from farm record book. Average milk production (459.09 ± 138.09 liter), calving interval (634.59 ± 223.92 days), age at puberty (1205.02 ± 313.80 days), service per conception (1.88 ± 1.09), gestation length (273.08 ± 7.48 days) and birth weight of fetuses (18.78 ± 34 kg) were observed. The minimum and maximum value of these results was also observed. The highest milk production (487.54 ± 109.73 liter) was found in the cows with parity number 4-8 and the second highest (456.84 ± 169.58 liter) was found with the parity number 2 and the lowest milk production (445.79 ± 86.64 liter) was found with the parity number 3. The average production of milk was observed (473.44 ± 134.15 liter) in the cows required interval between 370-590 days and 444.74 ± 142.11 liter found in the cows required 591-1365 days. When the range of age at puberty was 1186-2270 days and 665-1185 days the average production of milk was 468.56 ± 161.92 liter and 450.50 ± 113.56 liter was observed, respectively. Comparatively more milk production was found (461.52 ± 151.89 liter) in cows required less number of services per conception was 1-2 than the cows required more number of services per conception was 3-6 and their milk production was 452.84 ± 96.60 liter. There was no any significance difference of production of milk among the different variables.
