  Somatic embryogenesis and subsequent plantlets regeneration were achieved in callus cultures established from the leaf base explants of Kaempferia galanga L. Callus induction and somatic embryogenesis at various frequencies were observed using different concentrations and combinations of growth regulators. The highest percentage of callus induction was observed on MS medium supplemented with 1.5 mg L-1 2,4-D+1.0 mg L-1 BA. After transfer on MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg L-1 BA+0.1 mg L-1 NAA, this callus produced small globular embryos first that later developed into plantlets by further subculturing on the same medium. Plantlets were acclimatized and subsequently transferred to the field. Survival rate of the plantlets under ex vitro condition was 85%.

  Two planting methods viz. line and broadcast, five varieties viz. Local, Barimung 2, Barimung 3, Binamung 2 and Binamung 5 and five sowing dates viz. February 5, February 20, March 5, March 20 and April 5 were tested to know the relation between dry matter production and yield of munbean. The highest seed yield (890 kg ha‾1) was obtained from Barimung 2 and significantly higher seed yield (870 kg ha‾1) was obtained from February 20 sowing, while March 20 sowing yielded the lowest (593 kg ha‾1). Barimung 2, Barimung 3 and Binamung 2 performed better in line sowing compared with broadcast method. Line sowing method was found good when the crop was sown on February 20. Binamung 5 gave the highest seed yield (1071 kg ha‾1) when sown on February 20. Binamung 2 gave the highest seed yield (1163 kg ha‾1) when sown on February 20 in line sowing method.

  Malathion 57EC and Diazinon 60EC with different doses (1 ml, 2 ml and 3 ml/L water) were tested to evaluate the effect on mustard aphids and their toxicity on the predators and other beneficial insects of mustard aphid. Malathion was more effective than Diazinon for the control of aphids and it was less toxic for the predators and other beneficial insects. The lower dose of insecticides have less adverse effect on the predators and other beneficial insects than the higher dose.
