  The experiment was carried out to evaluate the performance of lentil-wheat mixed and intercropping system. Positive variation in different yield contributing characters except 1000seed weight of lentil and wheat to 40% of wheat seed rate and 1:1 line sowing were noticed indicating the agronomic suitability of mixed and intercropping of lentil and wheat in those practices. Line sowing performed better than sole broadcast sowing. All mixed seed rate decreased lentil yield but LER was increased in all the treatments over the sole crop lentil as broadcast. The maximum LER (1.52), monetary advantage (63%), benefit cost ratio (1.84) were achieved in lentil and 40% wheat as mixed cropping system.

  Studies on harvest index, genetic parameters, variability and correlation among different characters of 23 germplasms along with three control variety of Corchorus capsularis were conducted. The highest plant height (3:37m), base diameter (23: 33mm) and harvest index (32: 79) were found in the control variety VCL-1. Dry weight of leaf (12:45gm), dry weight of stick (64:13gm) and total dry matter were the highest in acc. no. 2271. Genetic variations were observed among the germplasms for plant height, base diameter, total dry matter and harvest index. Higher harvest index was found in the control variety CVL-1. No high yielding germplasm having higher harvest index could be identified from the germplasms studied. For all characters, phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation. Plant height, base diameter and dry weight of bark were positively correlated with harvest index.

  Phenological events namely field duration, average flowering and pod maturation took longer period in Roselle, HS-24 at all the ten dates of sowing. Jute and Kenaf had shorter field duration, average flowering days and pod maturation days compared to Roselle. Field duration of the crop was longer in May 15 sowing in all the experimental materials. Plant height decreased consistently from May sowing to September sowing. Plant height in all the sowings was higher in Tossa than White Jute, Kenaf and Roselle. Seed crop could be sown from May 15 to September 30.
