  Response of ten mungbean genotypes 98-CMG-003, 98-CMG-016, 98-CMG-018, L1/P5/89, NM-1, BRM-195, BRM-202, M-1, M-6 and NM-92 to three phosphorus level viz. 30, 60 and 90 kg ha-1 was studied under field conditions during kharif 2001. The genotype BRM-202 gave significantly highest grain yield of all other genotypes due to higher leaf area index. Various levels of phosphorus significantly affected the number of plants m-2, number of pods plant-1, plant height, number of grains pod-1, 1000 grain weight, grain yield, total biomass and leaf area index. phosphorus level of 90 kg ha-1 produced the maximum grain yield.

  The present study was conducted to determine the isolation, identification and characterization of efficient oil degrading bacterial strains and to study the effect of different concentration of crude oil on the growth of bacterial strain. Two samples soil and water were collected from the crude oil contaminated areas for the isolation and characterization of efficient crude oil degrading strains. Sub culturing technique was employed to isolate 43 numerically dominant bacteria that had the ability to grow on 1.0% crude oil on nutrient agar plates. The isolates were then subjected to different concentrations of crude oil on nutrient agar, mineral salt agar media containing Phosphorous, Nitrogen and trace elements with glucose (PNTG) and without glucose (PER). These isolates showed rich growth on nutrient agar media along with crude oil. Out of 43 isolates 7 were able to grow up to 2.0% crude oil and were named as AA-1 to AA-7. These strains were also able to grow on mineral salt agar media with and without glucose but with different susceptibility to different concentrations of crude oil. Finally 3 prospective strains AA-1, AA-2 and AA-3 were selected for further studies. These strains exhibited good growth in PNTG containing 1.0% crude oil as evident by increase in Optical Density (OD) after every 24 h for five days. These isolated strains were identified by morphological and biochemical tests and were found to belong to genus Bacillus. These strains were subjected to shake flask transformation of crude oil in mineral salt media (PNTG) with glucose for 15 days. Marked change in crude oil colour was observed for these isolates, indicating their biodegradative ability. These isolated strains were able to use crude oil as the sole source of carbon and energy even under stressed environmental conditions. Thus these strains have bright potential for biodegradation of crude oil resulting in clean up of oil spills.

  A factorial experiment comprised of two varieties viz. B-385 (V2) and KS-282 (V1) along with four fertilizer treatments, was conducted at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The treatments for nitrogen application techniques used were T1 (control), T2 (½ N + total P + total K applied at transplanting). T3 (1/3 N at transplanting, 1/3 N at tillering and 1/3 N at flowering stage) and T4 (total NPK applied at transplanting). V1 produced more panicles bearing tillers (7.76), 1000-grain weight (22.97 gm), paddy yield (2.92 kg), No. of tillers (8.16), No. of spikelets (122.4), 1000-grain weight (23.64), yield (2.85 kg) and harvest index (30.275). The treatment T2 followed the T3 in the above mentioned parameters which were statistically at par. PK-NK% were non-significant whereas to NK% are also behave similarly under different treatments. Tillering, panicle formation and seed setting are the critical stages contributing maximum to yield. The application of fertilizer in three split dose with a little more stress at panicle initiation stage is best technique to increase paddy yield.

  A 45 days storage experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of Uni-Packaging treatments on the shelf life of citrus fruits. Different treatments were polyethylene bags of 0.0254mm, 0.0508mm thickness and control. The result showed that the uni-packaging had no significant effect on the pH of citrus fruit. Weight loss increased significantly as storage increased. Maximum weight loss observed in control and minimum weight loss in thick packaging (0.0508mm). The T.S.S increased during storage but individual packaging had non-significant effect on the T.S.S. Ascorbic acid decreased from 1.59-0.63% during storage. The organoleptic properties evaluation revealed that individual packaging had significant effect on the external appearance, taste and texture. Thick packaging perform significant effect in prolonging the shelf life of citrus fruit.
