Image segmentation is an important issue in the field of computer vision, it serves as a bridge linking the basic image processing methods to the high-level semantic recognition methods. With the increasing applications of the image segmentation methods in the modern industries, such as the defect detection in the production lines, the real-time requirements are greatly raised. Recently, with the advent of the General-purpose Graphics Processing Unit (GPGPU) platform, the parallelized implementations on this new platform open a new way to accelerate the image segmentation methods to meet the real-time requirements. In this work, various methods are analyzed and parallelized on the GPGPU platform, the horizontal comparisons are made to evaluate the potentials of parallelization for different segmentation methods. The parallelization strategies are performed on two levels: on the algorithm development level and on the program development level. It is expected that this investigation may provide guidance to the future parallelization tasks for the more advanced image segmentation methods and other computer vision applications.

Brand loyalty is no longer a new concept but the importance of brand loyalty could never be overstated especially in recent decades as market competitions become globally fierce. Hence, to correctly understand the behavior of their customers or rather the antecedents of brand loyalty could be beneficial to marketers or entrepreneurs to secure their market positions. Thus, an increasing number of scholars have devoted to exploring the influencing factors of brand loyalty from various theoretical and industrial backgrounds. This study reviews the related academic studies on brand loyalty and particularly analyzes the influencing factors of Brand loyalty. It starts with introducing the evolution of brand loyalty research then defines brand and brand loyalty. Further, after revisiting the grounded theories of brand loyalty research such as the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) a summary of the most frequently researched influencing factors is presented. It is hoped that the study could shed some light in facilitating researchers to further develop conceptual framework and conduct empirical research and also guiding practitioners in rationalizing market strategy.

The growing global economy has intensified the complexity of the discrete but interrelated tasks involved in construction project. In order to achieve project success, the interactions between the team leaders and followers are vital. Taking into consideration the importance of leader to the organization, this study is therefore to examine the relationship between leadership styles (i.e., autocratic, democratic and Laissez-Faire) and employee engagement among the construction industry in Malaysia. Forty sets of questionnaires were collected from the companies registered under the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) grade 7, located in Kuantan, Malaysia. The study reveals that the democratic leadership style is more frequently practiced by practitioners than the other two coexisting leadership styles, autocratic and Laissez-Faire. The level of employee engagement in the construction industry shows frequently high. And, the three leadership styles are positively and significantly associated with employee engagement but still the democratic leadership style demonstrates stronger association with the employee engagement. Hence, in order to ensure employees more vigorous, dedicated as well as absorbed in their work, project leaders are suggested to be more trustable, honest, fair and communicative towards their followers.

Purpose effective leaders have been increasingly regarded conclusive in achieving business success under today’s globalization. The study explores from the perspectives of leader’s personality and leadership style. The 16 personality global factors are adopted to identify the five personality traits including extraversion, anxiety, tough-mindedness, independence and self-control. Leadership styles are targeted at the task-oriented, the relations-oriented and the change-oriented. The 31 pairs of managers and their subordinates from telecommunication industries in Malaysia are invited for respective participation. The results show that) the dominant personality of leaders is extraversion followed by self-control; the most popular leadership style is task-oriented and the task-oriented leadership is line within dependence and self-control for change-oriented leaders they are extravert but less tough-mindedness and for relations-oriented leaders they are extravert and also independent. Future, researches are recommended to broaden the research scope from personality, leadership style to include leadership effectiveness which might be more beneficial for industries to build up their competitiveness. The study established the matrix demonstrating the relationships between each personality and leadership style which can be applied as guidance in industries for recruiting, selecting and promoting suitable person for proper managerial position.
