  In an environment with limited resources and keen competition, many companies have outsourced their non-core business to reduce their operational costs and concentrate on using limited resources to develop their core business. Based on the consideration of cost reduction, many case-study institutions have also outsourced materials management. However, this resulted in high staff turnover rates and operational problems. Therefore, this study employed DO-MITIC problem-solving strategies and logic to improve outsourcing operations, with the result that staff turnover rates were reduced, customers’ satisfaction was enhanced and costs were substantially reduced, thus proving that DO-MITIC problem-solving strategies can enhance the effectiveness of materials management.

  With the gradual decreasing birth rate in Taiwan, many nursery schools are finding it difficult to recruit enough children and some are even forced to close. This study explores the operation dilemmas that nursery schools face and how to adjust and improve their operation structure under a low birth rate environment. Our findings show that nursery schools should not only adjust their organizational structure, but also work out an operation strategy for meeting the needs of their customers (i.e., parents) in order to survive, grow and thrive.

  The area of Hsinchu Science Park (HSP) in Taiwan is 6.5 sq km, encompassing some 500 enterprises and 150,000 employees. On average about 200,000 motor vehicles drive in and out of the park every day, resulting in frequent traffic accidents. Number of fatalities in accidents is over 1000 cases for every year. These accidents often cause traffic jams that may delay enterprises’ operations of human flow, cargo flow and financial flow and cause big losses. This study thus aims to improve the efficiency of dealing with traffic accidents to reduce the ensuing economic loss. The study uses management thinking to step by step review service planning, scheduling and commanding of traffic police operations and builds a new SOP for the specific duty service of dealing with traffic accidents. After practical application, the model herein not only removes the obstacles of traffic accidents quickly but also improves people’s satisfaction towards the HSP traffic police force.
