  Concerns were raised about the possibility of a high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among automobile assembly line workers. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among this group. A cross-sectional study of 346 automobile assembly workers and office workers were carried out using a modified version of the Nordic questionnaire. Prevalence was determined by the percent of positive responses to musculoskeletal symptoms lower back tom questions. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were the measures of association between prevalent musculoskeletal symptoms and demographic and were determined by logistic regression. The commonest musculoskeletal symptoms were from the feet (50.0%), low back (47.4%) and wrist/hand (30.1%), which was also the most common reason for missing work (19.4, 17.9 and 8.2%, respectively). Education status in the workers was significantly associated with MSD symptoms. Musculoskeletal symptoms are a significant problem among young automobile assembly line workers at the beginning of their careers. The work-related portion of the injuries and resulting disability is potentially preventable and it is important to identify interventions for reducing work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

  Ten fresh fish samples of different species (Mugil cephalus, Setipinna phasa, Coilia dussumieri, Scatophagus argus, Sillanopsis panijus, Arius caelatus, Hilsa ilisha, Polynemus paradiseus, Platicephalus indicus and Pelamys chiliensis) collected from Kuakata, Bangladesh were assessed biochemically (proximate composition, total volatile basic nitrogen, tri-methyl amine and pH). Moisture content of fresh fish varied over a range from 65.33 to 78.92%. Likewise, protein (8.58 to 19.06%), fat (6.12 to 12.99%) and ash (1.07 to 8.41%) content indicated wide variation in the ten fresh fish analysed. TVB-N and TMA-N values of fresh fish were found ranging between 10.92 ± 0.23 to 25.75 ± 0.80 mg N 100 g-1 and 7.70 ± 0.67 to 18.50 ± 0.77, respectively. The values of pH of the samples ranged from 7.03 ± 0.05 to 6.7 ± 0.07.

  The purposes of this study was to measurement cotton dust levels in air workplace, Prevalence of respiratory symptoms and determine of changes in Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) before and after during workday among textile workers. This study was done among 31 workers carding and blowing rooms. Using a short questionnaire for demographic characteristics, medical record were collected in a modified questionnaire of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and 12 air samples were collected of work area. The PEFR was measured with a peak flow meter. The mean cotton dust levels in carding and blowing rooms were 0.39±0.03 and 0.20±0.01 mg m-3, respectively. The mean age and year’s employment were 45±7.97 and 12.5±6.28, respectively. Thirty three percent of the workers were smoking. The prevalence of respiratory symptoms increased with age and employment years and there were found significantly between age and employment years with cough, phlegm, dyspnea (p<0.05, 0.05, 0.05, respectively). The mean PEFR before and after during workday were 362.9±147.8 and 305.8±147.5, respectively and subjects had found significantly (p<0.0001). The decline in PEFR was significantly associated with years employment (p<0.05), whereas with age and cotton dust levels were found to be non significant. One explanation for the lack of age and cotton dust levels effects in workers may be due to the low number of subjects and samples, respectively. Technological improvement has resulted in reduction of cotton dust exposure levels and respiratory symptoms.

  Biological studies of the mud crab, Scylla serrata (Forskal) collected from the Sundarbans mangrove ecosystem of Bangladesh were conducted during May, 2001 to February, 2002. The overall sex ratio of male to female was found to be 1:0.94. The sex ratio was uneven in most size groups and in most of the months. The modal class size was 81-90 mm Carapace Width (CW) in male and 71-80 mm in female. The monthly size-frequency distribution exhibited some variations. The relationship between carapace width and body weight were estimated as W = -128.25+4.06 CW, log W = -3.73+3.06 log CW or, W = 0.0078 CW3.06 for male and W = -89.59+2.387 CW, logW = -1.6035+1.8928 log CW or, W = 0.005 CW1.8928 for female. The condition factor of male crabs showed two peaks; first in 61-70 mm and second in 121-130 mm size group. In case of female it was highest in 61-70 mm size group. The relative condition factor was maximum at 125.5 mm CW and 65.5 mm CW in male and female, respectively. Gonadosomatic Index showed a single peak during May to July for female crabs.

  The investigation was carried out to evaluate the shelf life of Pangus (Pangasius hypopthalamus) stored in ice in relation to size and season. Samples collected from different ghers in Khulna region of Bangladesh during April 2002 to January 2003 were assessed both in summer and winter for three sizes of fish (large, medium and small). Quality deterioration was studied for 18 days by organoleptic and biochemical (TVB-N, TMA-N and pH) parameters. In summer, for large fish, the keeping time varied between 10 to 12 days when the value of TVB-N, TMA-N and pH ranged between 17.88 ± 0.97 to 24.12± 0.08, 4.43± 1.47 to 5.23± 1.05 mg N/100 g and 6.75± 0.50 to 7± 0.08; while the acceptability limit in winter was the 10th day. Within this period, the value of TVB-N, TMA-N and pH was 17.04 ± 1.02, 4.03 ± 0.84 mg N/100 g and 6.64± 0.09, respectively. In case of medium fish during summer, the shelf life was 12 days when the value of TVB-N, TMA-N and pH was 22.46± 1.36, 5.47 ± 0.54 mg N/100 g and 6.8 ± 0.08. The shelf life in winter season was found on the 10th day. At that time, the value of TVB-N, TMA-N and pH was 15.08 ± 0.06, 4.78 ± 0.84 mg N/100 g and 6.2 ± 0.04. For small fish, in summer, the rejection time was on the 10th day and the value of TVB-N, TMA-N and pH was 19.71 ± 1.05, 4.61 ± 0.74 mg N/100 g and 6.86 ± 0.05. However in winter, the just acceptability limit was found on the 10th day. The value of TVB-N, TMA-N and pH was 18.32 ± 0.58, 4.52 ± 0.68 mg N/100 g and 6.78 ± 0.50 during this period.

  The healthy lifestyle plays a major role in preventing of chronic and incommunicable diseases. On one hand a sedentary lifestyle due to available life welfare equipments and media and the other hand use of fatty and high calorie foods have changed the lifestyle. The aim of this study is, survey of lifestyle and compare it between girl and boy students resident in dormitories of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). The aim of this study is, survey of lifestyle and compare it between girl and boy students resident in dormitories of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). This is a cross sectional study carried out on 600 students of dormitory that selected randomly. The results of this survey reveals that the lifestyles of 44.8% students both girls and boys undesirable. This figure in boys and girls is 69.5-38.5%, respectively. Significant relation between lifestyle variable such as diet and coping with stress, physical activity and coping with stress was found. In order to help students to change in their lifestyle and reaching to optimum level; they should be encouraged to do physical exercise, to eat healthy and nourished food and to cope with stress.
