  Planting method plays an important role in the placement of seed at proper depth, which ultimately affects crop growth. The selection of suitable planting method for wheat is dependant upon the time of planting, availability of soil water at planting time, amount of residue in the field and availability of planting machine. A study was conducted in 1998-99 at three different sites in the rice-wheat area of Punjab to find out the effect of different planting techniques on yield and yield components of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Planting methods included bed formation + drill sowing (BDS), broad casting + bed formation (BCB), broadcasting (BC) and drill sowing (DS). Plant emergence was higher in drill sowing method in comparison with other methods. At harvesting, number of heads m-2) was higher with BCB and BDS planting system as compared to broadcasting and drill sowing methods. Biological yield was significantly higher in flat planted wheat (broadcasted and drill sown) in comparison with bed planted wheat (BB and DB) Although number of heads m-2), spike length and number of grains per spike were significantly higher in raised bed wheat (broadcasted and drilled beds) in comparison with the flat sown wheat (broadcasting and drill sowing) but wheat grain yields were lower in raised bed wheat than flat sown wheat. In raised bed planted wheat, 1000 grain weight was also significantly lower as compared to flat sown wheat.

  The people of Azad Kashmir in general and mountain dwellers in particular drink water from fresh springs. The objective of the present study was to assess the suitability of spring water for drinking purposes for which the samples were collected from different springs and analyzed for the bacterial presence by multiple tube and colony count method. The study reveals that springs are also contaminated with microorganisms. The presence of Conforms, E. Coli, Streplococus, Laclobacillus and Shigella in the most of the samples did not confirm the suitability of water for drinking purposes.

  A field experiment was conducted to determine the effect of seed size and seed rate on wheat performance. It was concluded that yield components like number of fertile tillers, spike length, 1000-grain weight were significantly affected by seed size and seed rate. Similarly photobiomass producing contributers like plant density and plant height were also found responsive to seed sizes. Seed sizes and seed rates also showed significant results regarding phenology. Protein content, however was increased by large seed size.

  The research was conducted to investigate the combined effect of sucrose - glucose solution on banana slices in ratio 1:1 and 7:3 sucrose glucose combination for 72 hrs and after every dipping slices were tested for pH, T.S.S, acidity moisture and ascorbic acid content, and organoleptic properties like colour, flavour and texture was also assessed. The observed results showed that pH decreased after 72 hrs. T.S.S increased from 21-30, in 36o brix, acidity also increased from 0.53-1.2. The moisture content decreased from 74.44% - 63% increase in T.S.S. Ascorbic acid content decrease color and flavor remain acceptable but texture decrease at 60o brix after 72 hrs.

  Experiments were carried out to find out the chemical composition of eleven species of edible mushrooms reported from the Forests of Azad Kashmir. The results obtained were used to compare with those of some commonly known edible mushrooms. Some lesser known edible mushrooms identified in Azad Kashmir Such as Amanita ceciliae, Volvariella bommbycina, Collybia dryophila, C. ellipsoidia, Flammulina velutipes, Laccaria globosia, Marasmiellus najmii, Marasmius oreades, Oudemansiella radicata, Russula aeruginea and R. chamaeleontina were analyzed for their chemical constituents including total dietary fiber, crude protein, fat, ash, moisture and carbohydrate. Despite the differences in the chemical composition of mushroom samples, when compared to the common edible mushroom Lentinius edodes (shiitake), the overall nutritional values of the mushrooms were good.
