  Ten females and two males from NZW, CAL and local Baladi rabbit were used to study the reproductive performance, meat chemical composition and quality of Sudan Baladi and New Zealand white rabbits. Compared with temperate rabbit breeds, Sudan Baladi (SB) rabbit breed was found to have smaller litter size, lighter birth weight and weaned small litter-size, than New Zeland white and California breeds. Weaning weight was similar in the three rabbit breeds. Still birth rate and mortality rate were lower for Sudan Baladi rabbits than for the two temperate rabbit breeds. Chemically, Sudan rabbit meat had less moisture and more fat than New Zealand white, a finding which reflected differences in maturity. The colour of the meat of Sudan Baladi rabbit was darker red and than that of New Zealand white. The former breed had slightly tough meat than the latter one.

  The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of feeding different levels of energy and methionine on the total antibody, IgG, IgM immunoglobulin titer of broiler chicks. Thirty chicks were reared in an open sided house with temperature range from 29-42°C. The birds were divided into six groups of five replicate with individual bird. Six experimental diets were used with two levels of energy 3050, 2850 kcal/kg and three levels of methionine: control (0%, 0.2% and 0.4%) above the recommended level. At 14 day of age the birds were immunized with 0.2% Sheep Red Blood Cell (SRBC) suspension. The total antibody titer against SRBC was evaluated at 5 and 10 days post immunization using haemagglutination test. 0.1M 2-meracaptoethanol was used to determine IgG, IgM immunoglobulin. The total antibody titer response to SRBC was significantly (p<0.05) increased in birds fed 0.2 and 0.4% methionine supplemented diets. The different levels of energy 3050 kcal/kg and 2850 kcal/kg had no significant (p>0.05) effect on total antibody titer. At 5 and 10 days post immunization IgG increased significantly (p<0.05) with 0.2 and 0.4% methionine above the recommended level. However, no change was observed in the titer of lgM. The different levels of energy had no effect on IgG and IgM titer.

  A total of 112, day-old broiler chicks were reared under summer temperature of the Sudan (35-45°C) to study the effect of supplementation of ascorbic acid on the feed intake, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), weight gain, immune status and ratio of weight of bursa, thymus and spleen to body weight. Four level of ascorbic acid 0 (control), 150 (low level), 350 (moderate level) and 550 (high level) mg/kg were used from day 14-42 day. Birds fed low and moderate levels of ascorbic acid (150, 350 mg/kg) show high feed intake compared to those fed high level (550 mg/kg), which resulted in improvement in body weight and feed conversion ratio of the moderate and low levels. Dressing percentage was not affected by different level of ascorbic acid. Total white blood cells were reduced as the level of ascorbic acid was increased. Lymphocytes increased in birds fed moderate or high levels of ascorbic acid. Heterophils were decreased in the group fed the moderate level and high levels of ascorbic acid. Monocytes decreased in the groups fed the high level, However, basophils and esinophils were not affected by the different levels of ascorbic acid. The mean weight of lymphoid organs or the ratio of lymphoid organs to body weight was not affected by the different treatments. Antibody titer against Newcastle virus was increased in birds fed diets supplemented with different levels of ascorbic acid.
