  In this research, selected geometric and mechanical properties of mung bean grain were evaluated as a function of moisture content. Five levels of moisture content ranging from 7.28 to 17.77% d.b. (dry basis) were used. The average length, width, thickness, arithmetic and geometric mean diameters, sphericity, thousand grain mass and angle of repose ranged from 5.145 to 6.199 mm, 3.760 to 4.474 mm, 3.537 to 4.223 mm, 4.147 to 4.965 mm, 4.090 to 4.893 mm, 0.795 to 0.789, 52.3 to 64.6 g, and 25.87 to 29.38° as the moisture content increased from 7.28 to 17.77% d.b., respectively. The bulk density was found to be decreased from 821.3 to 745.2 kg/m3, whereas the grain volume, true density, porosity, terminal velocity, and projected area were found to be increased from 27.88 to 47.33 mm3, 1230.0 to 1456.7 kg/m3, 30.43 to 46.57%, 4.86 to 5.29 m/s, and 17.48 to 19.26 mm2, respectively. There is a 43% increase in surface area from grain moisture content of 7.28 to 17.77% d.b. The static coefficient of friction on various surfaces increased linearly with the increase in moisture content. The rubber as a surface for sliding offered the maximum friction followed by galvanised iron, medium density fibreboard, stainless steel, aluminium and glass sheet. As moisture content increased from 7.28 to 17.77%, the rupture forces values ranged from 67.39 to 39.44 N; 63.86 to 42.18 N, and 53.96 to 41.79 N for thickness (Z axis), length (Y-axis) and width (X-axis), respectively.

  In this study, it was aimed to determine the suitable burning technique and grate type of wheat and sunflower stalks. Wheat and sunflower stalks were burnt in three different forms. In the first form, wheat straw was burnt in bale slices, sunflower stalks as it was removed from the field; in the second form, both stalks were burnt after being chopped without being compressed; and in the third one after being chopped and compressed in polyethylene bags. Three different grates with circle, oblong and mixed (circle+oblong) holed were used in the boiler. Fuels were burnt in the grates in three different forms, i.e., by front natural draft, bottom natural draft and bottom fan blowing. In the study, the highest boiler efficiency for the 1. forms of wheat and sunflower stalks were found as 25.7 and 25.1% in front burning with circle holed grate. The highest boiler efficiency in the 2. form trials were obtained under front burning conditions with circle holed grate, being 35.8 and 30.5% in wheat straw and sunflower stalks, respectively. The highest efficiency in the 3. form trials were obtained in the burning type bottom fan blowing and mixed holed grate with bottom fan blowing and circle holed grate in sunflower stalk with 30.9%. Low O2 values were obtained for front and bottom burning conditions in all three grates for the I. forms of fuels, in the chimney gas measurements of wheat and sunflower stalks.

  The physical properties of black-eyed pea were evaluated as a function of moisture content. In the moisture range from 10.82 to 31.76% d.b., the dimensions of the major (length), medium (width) and minor (thickness) axes varied from 9.15 to 10.45 mm, .67 to 7.31 mm and 6.01 to 6.55 mm, respectively. In the above moisture range, the arithmetic and geometric mean diameters increased from 7.28 to 8.10 mm and from 7.16 to 7.93 mm, respectively, while the sphericity decreased from 0.783 to 0.761. Thousand grain mass, surface area and projected area increased from 245.4 to 279.3 g, from 161.22 to 198.38 mm2 and from 57.75 to 68.18 mm2, respectively. In the moisture range from 10.82 to 31.76% d.b., the bulk density of the rewetted grain decreased from 637.80 to 602.48 kg m-3, true density increased from 1064.66 to 1205.99 kg m-3, porosity increased from 40.05 to 49.60%. The terminal velocity and angle of repose increased linearly from 4.98 to 5.44 m s-1 and 20.91 to 27.69°, respectively. The static coefficient of friction increased on six structural surfaces namely, rubber (0.380-0.434), galvanised iron (0.355-0.399), aluminium (0.346-0.383), stainless steel (0.333-0.375), glass (0.323-0.374) and medium density fibreboard (0.278-0.342) as the moisture content increased from 10.82 to 31.76% d.b.. The shelling resistance of black-eyed pea decreased as the moisture content increased and the highest force were obtained while loading along the Z-axis (thickness).
