A study was carried out in broiler chicken for comparative anthelmintic efficacy of neem and pineapple leave powder with piperazin hydrate for treatment of experimental Ascaridia galli infection. The affected birds had lower levels of Hb, PCV, Ca and P. The profile changed after treatment with neem and pineapple leave powder which was comparable to that observed after treatment with piperazine hydrate. Neem and pineapple leave powder treatment caused cent percent evacuation of the worms on 28th and 56th day post treatment respectively.

A study was carried out to evaluate the change in serum biochemical profile of broiler chickens experimentally infected with Ascaridia galli on treatment with powdered leaves of neem and pineapple and with piperazin hydrate. The control and birds treated with piperazine, neem and pineapple show changes in the level of glucose, cholesterol, total protein, albumin, magnesium, potassium and SGPT. The piperazine treated groups can resist better the decreased in the glucose level compare to the groups treated with neem and pineapple. The serum cholesterol level of the control and treated birds shows increased in level while the total protein and albumin contents decreased in control and treated groups. However the decreased in the neem treated group was higher for total protein while the pipeapple treated group shows higher decrease in the level of albumin. The serum level of the potassium and SGPT level also changes in control as well as treated groups.

A survey was carried out to detect the overall incidence of histomoniasis in broiler birds in different parts of Mizoram, India. Out of 4000 birds examined, 40 birds were found positive for Histomonas meleagridis revealing 1% infection rate. Heterakis gallinarum was recovered from the caeca of positive birds. Gross lesions were found in caeca and liver. Microscopic examination of stained section of liver tissue revealed numerous circular amoeboid Histomonas meleagridis together with cellular infiltration. The PCR selectively amplified 209 BP of the small subunit ribosomal DNA sequence of Histomonas meleagridis.

To obtain data on the incidence of lungworm infestation in piglets in different parts of Mizoram of India a survey was conducted during the calendar year 2011-2012 based on clinical and postmortem findings and in addition some biochemical and histopathological changes of affected lungs associated with Metastrongylus elongates infection were performed. The percent prevalence of lung worm infection in young piglets (upto 4-6 months old) was 40%. Clinically, infected piglets were exhibiting chronic and paroxysmal coughing with generalized unthriftiness. Histologically, tips of the lungs were found to be hard and become grayish or whitish. Histopathological studies revealed pulmonary emphysema. The alveolar cellular reaction of the affected lungs showed epithelialization of alveoli with infiltration of round cells, eosinophils, giant cells, fibers and lungworm eggs. Biochemical analysis of serum from infected piglets showed a significant increase in serum Alanine Amino Transferase (ALT), serum glucose, inorganic chloride, potassium and magnesium with a decrease in serum albumin, total protein and alkaline phosphatase with insignificant changes in the serum sodium level. The pork consumption in Mizoram is very high and pigs under four to six months of age showed the highest mortality rate with respiratory signs in different parts of this area during the study period. There was a serious herd problem associated with hypoproteinaemia, hyperglycaemia and reduced growth rate.
