  The effects of dietary dry seed powder of G. kola (Bitter cola) at inclusion levels of (O, 10, 20, 30 and 40g per kg of feed), on heamatological parameters body weights and survival rate of pullets chicks were investigated in a study that lasted eight weeks. 250- day old pullet chicks were randomly allocated to five treatment groups. A treatment contained two replicates of 25 birds each. Results showed that G. Kola (Bitter Cola) dry seed powder inclusion in the diet improved weight gain in groups B, C, D and E.This compared favourable with that of the control group A. Weight gain for group E fed 40 g kg 1 feed dry seed powder of bitter cola was lowest when compared to other groups. Highest weight gain was however recorded for the group D birds (30 g kg 1 feed) dry seed power of bitter cola. For the period the experiment lasted, results in this study showed that the higher the level of inclusion of dry powered seed of Bitter Kola in the diet the lower the mortality rate recorded. This supports the antimicrobial activity of Garcinia Kola, as already documented in literatures. Heamatological (parameters such as Pack Cell Volume (PCV), Heamoglobin concentration (Hb), Red Blood Cells (RBC), Mean Corpuscular Heamoglobin MCH, Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), for test groups B, C, D and E were not significantly different from that of the control group A. However there was a significant (p<0.05) proliferation of the White Blood Cells (WBC), specifically the lymphocytes in this study. This probably explains the antimicrobial effect of Garcinia cola seeds, in views of the major role that the lymphocytes assume in the immune defense mechanism of the body, in both man and animals.

  The effect of different inclusion levels of bitter kola (Garcinia kola) dry seeds powder on feed intake, body weight gain/week, feed efficiency/ week and carcass characteristics of broiler chicks from day old to 4 weeks were studied. 200 broiler chicks of Anak strain were assigned to 5 groups in which each group contained 40 birds 0% (w/w), 2.5% (w/w), 5% (w/w), 7.5% (w/w) and 10% (w/w) dry seed powder of G. kola levels were included in the groups, respectively. Feed intake, body weight gain and feed efficiency were significantly (p<0.05) different. Feed efficiency is highest in 0, 2.5% and lowest in 5 and 7.5% inclusion levels. Absence of mortality was recorded which may be due to the autimicrobial effects of G. kola dry pounder seed inclusion in the diets.

  A feeding trial lasting 49 days was conducted using 16 weaner pigs of mixed breeds (Large White x Landrace) with initial average weights of between 8.13±0.80 kg and 8.25±0.85 kg to determine the effects of different levels of wild sunflower (Tithonia diversifolia Hemsl. A Gray) leaf meal on their growth, haematology and organ characteristics. The animals were randomly assigned to four dietary treatments using Complete Randomized Design (CRD). There were four individually penned animals per treatment. The Wild Sunflower Leaf Meal (WSLM) was included at 0, 10, 15 and 20% levels. Feed and water were offered ad-libitum. Records of growth performance, blood parameters and organ characteristics were taken. The values of average final weight, daily weight gain, daily feed intake and feed gain ratio were not significantly influenced (p>0.05) by the dietary treatments. Significant differences were not indicated (p>0.05) in haemoglobin, packed cell volume, red blood cells, mean corpuscular haemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration. However, platelets, white blood cells, neutrophils and lymphocytes were significantly influenced (p<0.05). Kidney weight significantly increased (p<0.05) as levels of WSLM increased while heart, liver and spleen weights were not different significantly (p>0.05). It is evident that WSLM can be incorporated into the diet of weaner pigs at 200 g/kg

  Twenty-four cross bred male weaner rabbits of between 5-8 weeks, with mean weight of 804.67 g, were used in a feeding trial involving three levels 0,15 and 20% inclusion of Wild Sunflower Forage Meal (WSFM) in a complete randomized design study that lasted for 8 weeks. The rabbits were randomly divided into three dietary groups of 8 rabbits each. Each rabbit served as a replicate. The parameters measured were, feed intake, daily weight gain, feed: gain ratio, organ weights, carcass yield and tissue development. Rabbits with 20% WSFM inclusion in their diet recorded significant (p<0.05) lower values in daily feed intake and weight gain than both the control and 15% inclusion group. Values recorded for all the groups however did not significantly (p>0.05) differ in organ weights, organ yield and tissue development. It was concluded that WSFM can be included in the weaner rabbit diet up to 15% level without any deleterious effect on growth performance.

  Twenty crossbred rabbit of mixed breeds with average initial weights of between 823.7518.52 and 865.2519.46 g were used in a feeding that trial lasting for 8 weeks to evaluate the effect of feeding sun-dried cassava peel-blood meal mixture (SDCP/BM) based diet in a ratio of 3:2. The rabbits were randomly assigned to five treatments of four rabbits each in a completely randomized design experiment. The SDCP/BM mixture was included at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% levels. Performance characteristics evaluated included daily feed intake, weight gain, feed: gain ratio and some internal organs characteristics. The results showed that the performance characteristics of rabbits fed varying inclusion levels of SDCP/BM mixture compared favourably well (p>0.05) with the control diet. It was concluded that SDCP/BM mixture in the ratio of 3:2 can be included in the diets of rabbits up to 20% level.

  The effects of different inclusion levels of Garcinia kola on performance and egg quality parameters of layers were investigated for 8 weeks. A total of 40 Issa brown point-of-lay birds at 20 weeks of age were assigned randomly into 5 treatments, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 with 8 birds/treatment and 4 birds/replicate. Birds on each treatment were fed different diets containing Garcinia kola at 0 g/1000 g, 10 g/1000 g, 20 g/1000 g, 40 g/1000 g and 80 g/1000 g/kg weight of feed. The control diets did not contain Gracinia kola. The trial lasted for 8 weeks. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) in egg weight, yolk weight, yolk index, yolk length, yolk colour, yolk albumen ratio, shell weight, shell thickness and Haugh unit of the eggs. There were significant differences (p<0.05) in performances, albumen weight and yolk height. This study showed that Garcinia kola did not pose any deleterious effects to the birds even at 80 g/1000 g/kg inclusion level but performance and egg quality were best at 10 g/1000 g/kg of dietary inclusion.

  The effect of dried seed powered of bitter (Garcinia kola) on weekly feed intake, body weight gain, feed efficiency and carcass characteristics of broiler chicks of Anak strain were studied. Broiler chicks were assigned to 5 treatment groups of 40 birds each per group Replicated twice with 20 birds per replicate. They were fed diets containing 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 g/100 g dry seed powder of G. kola. There were significant treatment differences (p<0.05), in feed intake, body weight gain and feed efficiency. Feed efficiency was highest in 0, 2.5 g/100 g and lowest in 5 and 7.5 g/100 g inclusion levels. There was no mortality throughout the trial in any of the treatment groups.
