  Folliage of Hairy indigo (Indigofera astragalina) obtained from Sokoto state, Nigeria were studied for their proximate analysis and mineral composition. The proximate composition revealed the presence of moisture (51.00±0.50% fresh weight), ash (8.17±0.58% dry weight, DW), crude lipid (5.0±0.5% DW), crude fibre (2.67±0.29% DW), crude protein (8.23±0.11% DW) and carbohydrate (75.94±0.64%). The energy value was found to be 578.87 kcal/100 g. The minerals composition revealed, potassium (14.55±0.17 mg/100 g), sodium (0.33±0.16 mg/100 g), calcium (11.49±0.34 mg/100 g), magnesium (10.89±0.32 mg/100 g), phosphorus (0.39±0.01 mg/100 g), copper (0.02±0.00 mg/100 g), zinc (0.11±0.00 mg/100 g), iron (20.95±3.84 mg/100 g) and manganese (0.43±0.01 mg/100 g). These results revealed that the leaves of Hairy indigo (Indigofera astragalina) contained essential nutrients which compete favourably well with those of wild edible leaves in literatures.

  The Pulp of Gardenia aqualla fruit was analyzed for nutritional and anti-nutritional composition. The results obtained were moisture content (80.33%), ash (5.00%), crude lipid (1.70%), crude protein (3.85%), crude fibre (trace), available carbohydrate (89.45%) and the energy value (388.50 kcal/100 g). Elemental analyses shows that Sodium is the most abundant element (203.33 mg/100 g) while manganese is the least (0.2 mg/100 g), Lead was also detected (0.37 mg/100 g). The anti-nutritional parameters analyzed include; Phytate (26.57 mg/100 g), Soluble Oxalate (1.70 mg/100 g), Saponin (1.50 mg/100 g), Nitrate (0.38 mg/100 g) while Hydrocyanic acid content are (1.14 mg/100 g). The antinutrients to nutrients ratio indicate the bioavailability of some important minerals except in the case of [Phytate][Fe] and [Phytate][Ca] in the pulp which are found to reach the critical levels and therefore are expected to hinder Iron and Calcium bioavailability in the pulp.

  This study was aimed at deriving homemade activated carbon for the rate prediction of liquid phase atrazine uptake. Viable adsorption technique based on sorbate removal by phosphoric acid (H3PO4) Poultry Droppings (PD) was proposed to improve the ecological system. Two ways activation schemes generated activated carbons was applied to herbicide uptake and evaluated with three kinetic models. GC/MS quantitation experiment based on external standard method was performed to demonstrate up to 89.216% atrazine removal. The kinetic equilibrium study showed that a 300 min sorbate-sorbent interaction gave 19.293 out of 25 g dm3 adsorption (being a 77.172% adsorption). This is only 5.140, 1.992, 1.432 and 0.632% higher than the 60, 120, 180 and 240 min interaction with 72.032, 75.180, 75.740 and 76.540% atrazine removal respectively. The pseudo-second order kinetics was observed to be more suitable in predicting the adsorption rate by the sorbate wherein the initial adsorption rate, h was estimated as 0.3646 g/mg/min. A time dependent physisorption phenomenon was evidenced. The major results support the conclusion that the sorted agro-waste has the potential to serve as extractants adsorbents in remediation process.
