  Very Low Density apolipoprotein-II (apoVLDL-II) is a major constituent of Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) and is involved in lipid transportation in bird species. The current study was designed to investigate the associations of an apoVLDL-II gene intron-1 polymorphism on duck meat quality and fatness traits. The results showed that there were two alleles (A and B) and three genotypes (AA, AB and BB) in the experimental populations. AA genotype and A allele frequency were highest. Eight SNPs (T667C, C669G, T673C, G674A, G683A, G688A, C708G and T715G) and inserted/deleted GT after position 764 bp were found by sequencing. The apoVLDL-II gene intron-1 polymorphism was associated with multiple traits of meat quality and fatness in the 170 individuals, including pH-value, tenderness, water holding capacity, IMF, serum total cholesterol, serum triglyceride and abdominal fat. This research suggests that apoVLDL-II intron-1 has broad effects on meat quality and fatness traits in duck.

  The content of Intramuscular Fat (IMF) of Anka chicken, Wenchang chicken and Rugao chicken from 4-12 weeks old were tested in this study. The results showed that Intramuscular fat content in three chicken breeds increased with the age. Herein, the IMF of breast muscle in Anka chicken sharply increased after 8 weeks old and was higher than that of Wenchang and Rugao chicken. But, there was no significant difference between different breeds before 8 weeks old. The IMF of hen is higher than that of cock in all three breeds, but only in Wenchang chickens the significant difference were detected between different sex.

  The effect of Dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO), Glycerol (GLY) and Propanedo (PROH) cryoprotectants, each at (10, 20 and 30%) concentration on the preservation of mouse and cattle skin tissue, was investigated. And then, the toxicity test was performed by exposing the skin tissue to DMSO, GLY, PROH, EG without freezing. Tissues were checked by capacity explants. The results indicated that mouse skin tissue frozen in 10% GLY and cattle ear tissue frozen in 20% GLY medium with dry-ice yielded significantly (p<0.05) higher percents (33.3 and 71.4%) of fibroblast than tissue frozen in either concentration of GLY or cryoprotectants. In the toxicity test, mouse skin tissues exposed to GLY and equilibrated at 4°C resulted in higher percent of average explants (41.1%) than that was exposed to PRON and DMSO (average explants 38.3 and 36.5%, respectively), while cattle tissues showed higher toxicity, when exposed to PROH and EG and equilibrated at 4°C (average explants 39.9 and 44.2%, respectively). The present study recommended that 10% GLY with dry-ice freezing was the effective cryoprotectant for the mouse skin tissues, while 20% GLY with dry-ice freezing was effective for cattle skin tissues.

  Correlation analysis of wool yield at age of one year in Wan line Angora rabbits using microsatellite DNA markers was studied. The results showed that the average number of alleles per locus was 4.5 (from 3 to 6) in Wan line Angora rabbits. The mean heterozygosity and the average polymorphism information content were 0.680 (from 0.630 to 0.721) and 0.642 (from 0.559 to 0.705), respectively. The relationships were not significant between Sat4, Sat13, So144 loci and wool yield (p>0.05). The relationship was significant between Sol33 locus and wool yield (p<0.05) and wool yield of genotype AD and BD were significantly higher than that of the other three genotypes which did not have gene D (p<0.05). This may indicated that the gene D could synergize wool yield of Wan line Angora rabbits.
