Age structure and some growth parameters of Bufo viridis from the Giresun Island and Giresun province in Turkey were studied by skeletochronology. We studied 56 specimens (41 female, 15 male) from island and 44 (5 female, 39 male) from mainland population. In both populations, age at sexual maturity was 2-3 years in both males and females. Age was ranged from 2-8 years for females and 3-6 years for males in island while 4-7 and 3-8 years in mainland population, respectively. Males and females did not differ in the mean age while SVL and weight were significantly different between males and females in two populations. In addition, we found positive correlations between age and SVL in both sexes in two populations.

During a two-years survey of amphibian and reptilian species and their habitats in Murgul, Artvin a total of 22 species were recorded. In the investigated species were, six tailless amphibians, two tailed amphibians, six lizards, and eight snakes. The habitats of Vipera ammodytes transcaucasiana, Triturus vittatus ophryticus, Coluber najadum, Lacerta clarkorum, and Lacerta trilineata are threatened by a dam being constructed between Borçka and Erenköy. Furthermore, it should be pointed out that some compliant species such as Elaphia hohenackeri, Coronella austriaca, Rana macrocnemis and Anguis fragilis are being threatened by local people.

In this study, the abundance of freshwater fish and relationship with certain ecological parameters of the Trabzon region were investigated. In addition, the migration ways of sea trout which is the marine form of Salmo trutta labrax were researched. When the sampling stations and number of the species are taken into consideration, Cyprinidae, known as white fish, are dominant especially at the middle and lower parts of streams. Salmo trutta labrax is dominant at the upper parts of the streams. In addition to Salmo trutta labrax, Barbus plebejus escherichi and Gohius eurycephalarges are often encountered at the upper parts of streams. Although Barbus plebajus escherichi has the highest number of individuals (20.50), Salmo trutta labrax has the highest %n (44.47) and % g (81.83) values. From twelve examined streams during this investigation, two sea trout specimens were only caught from Yanbolu and Sogutlu. All of the streams of this region are short and flow very rapidly. They relatively become smooth towards the sea. Haskoy station has the critical pH and O2 value due to domestic pollution. Except this station environmental parameters such as dissolved O2, pH and conductivity were found optimal for Salmo trutta labrax.

Skeletal muscle was investigated by SDS-PAGE protein electrophoresis for western versus eastern Turkish populations of the newt Ommatotriton ophryticus. The number of protein bands resolved was 25 in the west and 26 in the east. The modal number of trunk vertebrae was also compared among 10 populations of the eastern group (Artvin, Trabzon, Giresun, and Ordu) and 3 populations of the western group (Zonguldak, Bartin, and Karabuk). The eastern group had 13 vertebrae except S,inik (Trabzon) specimens, which had 14 vertebrae, whereas the western group had 12 vertebrae. These data supported the recognition of 2 taxa that would correspond to O. o. nesterovi in the west O. o. ophryticus in the east.
