  Transforming parametric concentrations into qualitative scores irrespective of unit has made the WQI a comprehensive and easy to use tool to the decision makers. As criteria of water quality vary with purpose of use of the groundwater, selection of water quality parameters, involved in working out quality index for specific use also differs. Use of Groundwater Quality Index (GWQI) technique to assess irrigation water quality is innovative in this study. Electrical Conductivity (EC), Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) and Residual Sodium Carbonate (RSC), judged as the three most important parameters to designate irrigation quality of groundwater have been used to work out GWQI in this study. Preparation of ISO Index maps using water quality scores, derived through GWQI tool, vividly portray the irrigation water quality status of the study area where most of the area fall under excellent and good categories. The marked difference in water quality with respect to season in some areas of Southeastern and Southwestern parts of the study area may be correlatable to the recharge and discharge zones of groundwater, respectively.

  In this study, electrode contact impedances and their effects on the measurement have been studied in a fruit impedance measurement system using Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The EIS study has been conducted on the banana samples during their ripening and the variation of contact impedance with frequency at different ripening state has been observed. The contact impedance under each electrode has been calculated by using compound electrodes developed from stainless steel sheets and the effect of the contact impedance on the measurement accuracy has been studied. The total contact impedance has been computed by comparing electrical impedance of banana obtained with two terminal and four terminal method using the compound electrodes consisting of current and voltage electrodes concentrically placed on banana surface. It is found that banana impedance obtained with two terminal method is higher in magnitude than the four terminal method with compound electrodes. It is also found that the contact impedance under each electrode is maximum at low frequency and minimum at high frequency.

  Pleurotus fossulatus (Cooke) Sace is member of oyster mushroom can produced extracellular laccase (benzenediol: oxygen oxidoreductase; EC in submerged fermentation. To analyze the optimum production for laccase P. fossulatus was cultured both in stationary and shaking condition in different media. Partial purification of laccase was done after 0-80% ammonium sulphate precipitation, followed by DEAE (Diethylaminoethyl) Sephadex (A-50) anion exchange chromatography. Potato-sucrose peptone (PSP) medium and Potato-dextrose (PD) medium showed highest laccase production in shaking and stationary conditions, respectively. Though the time required for optimum laccase production in stationary condition was much more than the shaking condition but the amount of laccase was about 2.75t greater in former condition. The laccase produced in stationary condition was more stable than the enzyme produced in shaking condition. The partially purified enzyme showed highest affinity towards o-dianisidine than guaiacol and ABTS (2,2’- Azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) as evidenced by their Km. The physico-chemical properties of the laccase suggested the significance of this enzyme in industrial applications.
