The effects of the synthetic pyrethroid, Fenom® on the gamma-irradiated Tropical Warehouse Moth, Cadra cautella (Walker) (Lepidoptera:Phycitidae) larvae have been studied. Both the insecticide and gamma irradiation either singly or in combination, significantly increased larval mortality and developmental periods. The pupation and adult eclosion, reproductive potential and longevity of the adults from treated larvae were significantly decreased.

Studies on the aquatic insects of some swamps in Rajshahi University campus were made for a period of 12 months from November, 2001 to October, 2002. The insect population mainly consists of Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera and Epimeroptera. The highest number of insects were recorded during November and December, 2001 and from February to May, 2002. A total of 18 genera under 13 families and 4 orders were identified. Some hemipterans (Corixidae, Gerridae, Nepidae and Hydrometridae) and dipterans were surface dwellers, Notonectidae of order Hemiptera were middle dwellers and others were bottom dwellers. The investigation of natural fish production was also considered. From the above investigation, it is concluded that the insect population in swamps was very high and it can be used as natural food for fish culture

The effect of different cereal flours, e.g. wheat, barley, corn and rice flours on the lesser mealworm, Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer) has been worked out. Cereal flours reduced the growth of all the developmental stages of the beetle. The pupal and adult recoveries (%) were also lowered, and the larval and pupal durations were lengthened in the tenebrionid when grown on cereal flours. The fecundity and egg viability (%) of A. diaperinus were also significantly reduced when reared on these flours.
