  Yarn plying effects various properties of yarn. Particularly the amount and direction of twist in plied yarn exerts critical effects upon mechanical properties of yarn. The balanced ply structure is that structure when maximum fibres are parallel to the yarn axis and at this stage the plied yarn has the maximum strength. This structure can be achieved when the direction of spinning and the folding twist is opposite and the twist multiplier is 4.

  Yarns reflect the characteristics of its constituent fibres and the characteristics of the fabric arise from the structure of the yarns, from which it is composed. PC blended yarn of 24s were prepared at five TM levels for both S and Z twists and then doubled in S and Z directions. Finally fabric samples were prepared at power loom using the doubled yarn weft. It was concluded from this study that the yarn with TM 4 at SS combination in folding was the best to achieve optimum fabric tearing strength.

  The effect of beater speed, grid bar setting and cotton trash percentage upon Uniclean (B 11) and Giant cleaner setup were studied for quality characteristics of cotton. The results in respect of fibre length and uniformity ratio showed highly significant differences in the mean values for different combination of settings as well as cleaning segments. Uniclean exert swift gentle but firm action of less stress on fibres whereas the action of Giant cleaner is very aggressive and severe during its cleaning action, which is detrimental to fibre staple.

  From the present research work it is concluded that properties of ring spun yarn are better than air-jet spun yarn. Under different blend ratios, yarn and fabric tensile properties improved gradually as the share of polyester in the blend was increased. However under two different yarn spinning systems (ring and air-jet), fabric strength, of ring spun yarn knitted fabrics is greater as compared to air-jet spun yarn. The results indicated that yarn and fabric strength as well as fabric weight showed highly significant effects of machine and blending ratio.
