  Dichlorobismuth(III) pyrazolinates and chlorobismuth(III) dipyrazolinates of the type BiCl2(C15H12N2OX) and BiCl(C15H12N2OX)2 have been synthesized in dry benzene by reaction of BiCl3 and the sodium salt of pyrazoline in 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 molar ratios at elevated temperature [C15H12N2OX = 3(2`-hydroxyphenyl)-5-(4-X-substituted phenyl) pyrazoline and X = H in compounds 1, 5, CH3 in 2, 6, OCH3 in 3, 7 and Cl in 4, 8, respectively]. These newly synthesized derivatives have been characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N, Cl and Bi), molecular weight measurements and spectral (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR) studies. Selected compounds screened against different bacteria and fungi show potential antibacterial and antifungal activities.

  Dichloroantimony(III) pyrazolinates and chloroantimony(III) dipyrazolinates of the type SbCl 2(C 15H 12N 2OX) and SbCl(C 15H 12N 2OX)2 [where C15H 12N 2OX = 3(2′-hydroxyphenyl)-5-(4-X-phenyl)pyrazoline, X=H in 1 and 5;-CH 3 in 2 and 6;-OCH 3 in 3 and 7 and-Cl in 4 and 8] have been synthesized by reaction of SbCl 3 and sodium salt of pyrazolines in 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 molar ratio in anhydrous benzene at elevated temperature. These newly synthesized derivatives have been characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N, Cl and Sb), molecular weight measurement and spectral studies [IR and 1H and 13C NMR]. The free pyrazoline and some dichloroantimony(III) pyrazolinates and chloroantimony(III) dipyrazolinates have been screened for antibacterial and antifungal activities, with some dichloroantimony(III) pyrazolinates and chloroantimony(III) dipyrazolinates exhibiting higher antibacterial and antifungal effects than free pyrazoline and some antibiotics.

  Arsenic(III) tripyrazolinates and bismuth(III) tripyrazolinates of the type M(C15H12N2OX)3 [where C15H12N2OX = 3(2'-hydroxyphenyl)-5-(4-substituted phenyl)pyrazoline] have been synthesized by the reaction of MCl3 and sodium salt of pyrazolines in 1:3 molar ratio in anhydrous benzene at elevated temperature. These newly synthesized derivatives have been characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N, As, and Bi), molecular weight measurement, spectral [IR and multinuclear NMR (1H & 13C)] and x-ray diffraction studies. The bonding mode of pyrazolines and coordination no. of arsenic(III) and bismuth(III) in these derivatives have been discussed. Antibacterial and antifungal potential of free pyrazoline and some arsenic(III) tripyrazolinates and bismuth(III) tripyrazolinates have also been discussed.
