Six species and five genera, viz., Ergatettix, Euparatettix, Formosatettix, Hedotettix and Paratettix, of the tetrigids (pygmy grasshoppers) under the subfamily Tetriginae have been collected from various localities of Thal Area of the Punjab. Out of these, genus Formosatettix with the species F. larvatus is a new record from Pakistan, while the species, Hedotettix attenuatus, is a new record from the Punjab.

Predatory potential of Coccinella septempunctata L. on cotton aphids (Aphis gossypii Glov.) was studied under laboratory conditions at 21±1°C and 70±5 percent relative humidity. Both adult and larva of predator voraciously consumed on an average, 60.56 and 141.01 aphids per day, respectively and the total developmental period was noted to be 18.75 days.

Nine pollen substitute diets were tested for their performance in supporting the bee colonies of Apis mellifera L. during summer 1996. Maize flour + Vitamin B-complex + Glysine (T6) proved the most suitable diet with 416.14 square inches brood area recorded in the hives provided with this diet. The next more preferred diet was Maize flour + Vitamin B-Complex + Egg yolk (T4) with 354.81 sq. inches brood area. In case of pollen area, the diet T1 (Soybean flour + Vitamin B-Complex) proved the most effective with 104,90 square inches and it was statistically better than all other treatments. Maximum honey area (195.79) square inches recorded in colonies fed with Maize flour-4-Vitamin B-Complex + Methionine (T8) and it was better than all other treatments. Maximum colony strength of 6.24 bee frames per colony was observed in the colonies fed with T7, (Soybean flour + Vitamin B-Complex + Methionine) and it was statistically similar to T8 (5.931, T9 (5.78), T1 and T4 (5.74).

This study included, six grasshoppers species belonging to the subfamilies Tropidopdinae and Truxalinae have been collected from various localities of Pakistan and identified up to species level. The speies Tristria pulvinata Uvarov has been recorded for the first time for this country, while the new locality records have been given for the species viz., Tristria pulvinata Uvarov, Tropidopola cylindrica Iranica Uvarov, Tropidopola congicornis graeca Uvarov, Truxalis grandis fitzgeraldi Dirsh, T. nasuta (Linnaeus) and T. axima axima Eichwala. Measurements of various body parts, habitat and distribution of each species are also given in this paper.

Eleven species of the pygmy grasshoppers under four genera, i.e., Ergatettix, Euparatettix, Hedotettix and Paratettix have been collected from different localities of Rawalpindi Division. Out of these, Ergatettix dorsiferus has been recorded for the first time from the Punjab, while E. guentheri is a first record from Pakistan. The measurements of all the species, alongwith their distribution and habitat are also provided.

Eight species of tetrigid grasshoppers under 5 genera belonging to the subfamilies Scelimeninae and Metrodorinae collected from various localities of Rawalpindi Division have been identified. Out of which, four genera, viz., Eucriotettix, Bolivaritettix, Thoradonta and Eurymorphopus and seven species, viz., Eucriotettix montanus, E. grandis, Bolivaritettix laticeps, Criotettix annandalei, Thoradonta apiculata, T. sinuata and Eurymorphopus latilobus have been recorded for the first time from Pakistan.

Nymphalidae is by for the largest family of butterflies represented the world over. In the present studies from Rawalpindi and Islamabad, eight selected sites were sampled. The collected specimens were compared with the previously reported species of this family and out of 18 species, Kallima inachus was recorded for the first time from Pakistan.

The impact of various insecticides viz., Promet 400CS (Seed treatment), Confidor 70WS, Furadan 3G, Basudin 60EC against pest insect complex of maize and on various yield components has been tested in this research. Confidor gave best results in reducing population of maize stem borer and maize shoot fly i.e., 1.708 and 2.375 per 20 plants respectively followed by Furadan i.e., 1.75 and 4.083 respectively. Basudin resulted in mean pest population as 2.33 (maize borer) and 5.375 (shoot fly). All the insecticidal treatments tested, significantly improved the plant characters over check. The highest plant height (241.82 cm) was observed in plots, which received seed treatment with Confidor.

Study was carried out to determine the level of resistance in Tribolium castaneum (Hbst.). Strains collected from various localities of the Punjab and exposed to different concentrations of phosphine, viz; 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05%. Higher concentration (0.05 percent) gave higher mortality (90.721-100 percent) under test. While LC 50 values calculated for Sargodha, Kalar-Kahar, Chiniot, Moza Matu, Noorwala, Okara, Jhang, Mamukanjan, Faisalabad, Lahore and susceptible strains of T. castaneum were 0.0220, 0.0115, 0.0176, 0.0132, 0.0136, 0.0163, 0.2010, 0.0186, 0.0193, 0.0192 and 0.0030, respectively, and the level of resistance in these strains ranged from 3.787 to 7.255.

Studies were conducted to ascertain the effect of the weather factors on incidence and development of H. armigera on different sunflower genotypes during 2008-2009. The H. armigera population was built up progressively from April 12 to April 27 in terms of egg count. The larval population started to increase continuously from April 12 to May 01 and a tremendous decrease was observed thereafter. The results reveal that maximum temperature during 2009 showed significant and positive correlation r-value of 0.514** with the egg counts of H. armigera. Whereas, on cumulative basis relative humidity and rainfall had negative and significant correlation with the eggs count with r-values of -0.525** and -0.479*, respectively. It is evident that a maximum larval population was recorded to be 5.64 per 5 plants on April 24, 2009. The determination of the effects of different weather factors on egg count and larval population of H. armigera in sunflower is essential for effective management of this pest.
