  A comparative study of the frequency and spectrum of chlorophyll mutations induced by MMS (0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05%), gamma rays (5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 kR) and their combinations (10 kR+0.01%, 10k R+ 0.02%, 10 kR+0.03%, 10 kR+0.04% and 10 kR+0.05%) in M2 generation was made in 2 varieties of Vicia faba L. viz., minor and major. Six different types of chlorophyll mutants viz., albina, chlorina, maculata, tigrina, virescence and xantha were identified in the treated populations. Chlorophyll mutation frequency was calculated on plant population basis. Frequency of chlorina mutants was highest followed by xantha and other types in both the varieties. Combination treatments in general proved to be most effective followed by MMS and gamma rays in inducing maximum frequency of chlorophyll mutations (Gamma rays + MMS> MMS> Gamma rays). A significant variation in varietal response was observed. The co-efficient of interaction was less than additive, but synergistic effect was also observed.

  Four improved cropping patterns, BRRIdhan28-Fallow-BRRIdhan30, BRRIdhan28-Fallow-BRRIdhan31, BRRIdhan29-Fallow-BRRIdhan30 and BRRIdhan29-Fallow-BRRIdhan31 were evaluated in the farmers field along with the farmers` existing major cropping patterns BR14-Fallow-BR11 and BR14-Fallow-Pajam in six blocks under Sadar, Kapasia and Sreepur Upazilas of Gazipur district. Grain yields of all the alternative improved cropping patterns were significantly higher than the farmers` existing cropping patterns in each site. In all locations, pattern BRRIdhan29-Fallow-BRRIdhan31 gave higher grain yield and higher gross margin compared to other tested patterns.

  The properties of mattress cover which was produced by the rotor spun jute-cotton (80:20 and 70:30) blended yarn were studied and compared with the properties of mattress cover produced by 100% cotton yarn. It was observed that the average warp wise strength and abrasion resistance of 80:20 blended fabric were comparable and very closer to that of the 100% cotton fabric. On the other hand average warp wise strength and bursting strength of 80:20 blended fabrics were very nearer to the 100% cotton fabric.
