Photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide prepared by a gamma-ray irradiation

Abstract: The photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide prepared by a gamma-ray irradiation was investigated. The particles of the prepared TiO2 were very fine and had a narrow distribution. The particle size of the prepared TiO2 was in the range 20–100 nm and the average particle size was 61 nm from the particle size analyzer (PSA) result. The remaining ammonia gas after a UV irradiation was measured. Ammonia gas detection and analysis were carried out on a capillary column-gas chromatography (GC) system. The remaining ammonia gas of the prepared sample in a transparent tube after a UV irradiation was decreased owing to the neutralization reaction of the ammonium hydroxide and polyacrylic acid (PAC) and the photocatalytic activity of the nanosized TiO2 particles.
