Effect of Nitrogen and Spacing on the Growth and Yield of Gimakalmi, Ipomoea reptans Poir

Abstract: The experiment was conducted to study the effect of different levels of nitrogen and spacing on the growth and yield of Gimakalmi. Four nitrogen levels viz., 0, 30, 50 and 60 kg N/ha and four levels of spacing viz., 30 x 10 cm2, 30 x 15 cm2, 30 x 25 cm2 and 30 x 30 cm2, were included in this experiment. The maximum plant height, number of leaves per plant, number of branches per plant, fresh weight of leaves per plant, fresh weight of stems per plant, were observed in the above nitrogen application and plant spacing. The highest yield (6.10 t h‾1 ) was obtained at 60 kg N ha‾1 at 90 days after sowing (DAS), whereas the lowest yield 3.58 t/ha in control treatment. The maximum growth and yield of the plant were observed in 30 X 30 cm2 and 30 X 10cm2 spacing at all the dates of harvests. The highest yield 6.10 t ha‾1 was found at the closest spacing (30 X 10cm2) whereas the lowest yield 4.15 t ha‾1 in the widest spacing 30 X 30 cm2 at 90 DAS .
