Effect of Formulated Diet versus Live Food on Growth and Survival of Russian Sturgeon (Acipenser guldenstaedti) Larvae Starting Exogenous Feeding

Abstract: This paper presents the technological results of rearing the Russian sturgeon (Acipenser guldenstaedti, Brandt, 1833) larvae in the conditions of the reproduction station from Issacea branch of S.C. Kaviar House S.R.L. Growth performance of these hatched-produced larvae was assessed after 32 days of rearing experiment on three different diets (live, artificial and mixed food). The gained results confirmed the possibility of a reasonable growth (specific growth rate of 9.63 %BW/d and daily growth rate 34,4 mg/d) and feed utilization (feed conversion ratio equal to 2.28), in the context of maintaining a good body condition (average k factor equal to 1.36±0.23), for the fish group fed on artificial diet. The low survival rate showed however that not all larvae are fully equipped and adapted to process hydrolyzed fodder. A model equation for quantifying sturgeon growth in this early life stage was established.
