Yield and Yield Components of Wheat as Affected by Different Planting Dates, Seed Rate and Nitrogen Levels

Abstract: In order to study the yield and yield components of wheat as affected by different planting dates, seed rate and nitrogen levels, an experiment was carried out at Malakandhar Research Farms, NWFP Agricultural University Peshawar, Pakistan during 2000. Mean value of the data indicated that different sowing dates and nitrogen levels had a significant effect on productive tillers m-2 spike length, spiklets spike-1, grain yield, biological yield and harvest index, while the effect of different seed rates on the above parameters was non significant. October 25th sowing (early) had maximum productive tillers m-2, grain yield and biological yield. Plots fertilized with 160 kg N ha-1 recorded maximum productive tillers m-2, spike length, spiklets spike-1, grain yield and biological yield.
