Functional Response of Orius albidipennis (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) to the Two-spotted Spider Mite Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae)

Nesrin A. El-Basha, M.S. Salman and M.A. Osman
The objective of this study was to determine the functional response of the predator Orius albidipennis (Reuter) fed on egg of Tetranychus urticae Koch. We conducted a logistic regression of the proportion of prey consumed as a function of initial prey density to identify functional response types and used nonlinear least-squares regression and the random predator equation to estimate attack rates and handling times. Overall, all stages of O. albidipennis exhibited a type-I functional response to T. urticae. Whereas, attack rate (a) and handling time (Th) of O. albidipennis female and male recorded 1.267, 0.828, 0.0122 and 0.0141 when offering eggs of T. urticae, respectively.
