Determination of Correlation and Path Analysis among Yield Components and Seed Yield in Oil Flax Varieties (Linum usitatissimum L.)

Osman Copur, M. Atilla Gur, Mehmet Karakus and Ufuk Demirel
The aim of this study was to determine the direct and indirect relationships between yield and yield components of oil flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) using correlation and path analyses. The experiments were carried out at Harran University, Faculty of Agriculture experiment station in 2001 and 2002 years. Field experiments were randomized complete blocks design with three replications. Eleven oil flax varieties were used in the experiments. According to 2 years results; significant and positive relationships were found between the seed yield and 1000 seed weight (r = +0.346**), plant height (r = +0.401**), number of capsule per plant (r = +0.797**), number of primary branch per plant (r = +0.271*) and protein content (r = +0.235*); between 1000 seed weight and number of capsule (r = +0.295**); between plant height and number of capsule (r = +0.365**); between number of capsule and protein ratio (r =+0.375**), number of primary branch and number of seed per capsule (r = +0.376**) and between protein ratio and oil ratio (r = +0.562**). On the contrary, significant but negative relationships were found between 1000 seed weight and number of seed per capsule (r = -0.268*), between plant height and oil ratio (r = -0.287*). These results indicated that 1000 seed weight, plant height, number of capsule and number of primary branch have direct effect on seed yield. According these findings, breeding for high yielding oil flax varieties, number of capsule should be considered firstly followed by number of primary branch, 1000 seed weight and plant height.
