Effects of Gibberellic Acid (GA3) on Physiological Contributing Characters of Mungbean (Vigna radiata L.)
Md. Manzurul Hoque and Md. Shahidul Haque

Abstract: Two varieties of mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) were compared for effects of seed treatment and foliar application of GA3 at 0, 50, 100 and 200 ppm on the growth contributing characters. Seed treatment with GA3 at 50 ppm increased the leaf area index, total dry matter, crop growth rate, while 200 ppm increased relative growth rate and net assimilation rate. Foliar application of GA3 at 200 ppm had higher relative growth rate, while that at 100 ppm had greater leaf area index, total dry matter, crop growth rate and net assimilation rate. Between the mungbean varieties, V1 (BARI-4) performed better than V2 (BARI-5) while the seeds were treated and an opposite result was found with foliar application of GA3. Significant varietal differences were observed in terms of physiological characters. The study indicates a high potentiality to increase the yield of mungbean in Bangladesh by the application of GA3.
