Abstract: A total of 8 bifidobacteria strains were isolated from faeces of breast-fed infants. They were identified as Bifidobacterium breve (2 strains) and B. infantis (6 strains). Almost all strains were resistant to amino glycoside antibiotics, but sensitive to chloramphenicol, nitrofurantoin and erythromycin. Susceptibility to other antimicrobial was varied. Four strains shown to have plasmids DNA with band size 50, 8 and 2.3 kb.
