Abstract: Acute oral toxicity of methanol extract of Pluchea arguta Boiss was evaluated in Swiss albino mice of both sexes. In this study mice were administered orally with dosages of 1000, 3000 and 6000 mg kg-1 b.wt. of methanol extract of P. arguta extract. Mortality, signs of toxicity, body weight, food and water consumption, haematological and gross behaviour was observed for 7 days post treatment of P. arguta extract. No mortality, signs of toxicity and abnormalities in gross behaviour were observed. In addition, no significant differences were noticed in the body and organ weights between the control and treated groups of both sexes. The methanol extract of P. arguta is nontoxic and safe by oral intake.
