Abstract: The research work was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial and cytotoxic evaluation of a flavonone. The flavonone, 5-methoxy-7-hydroxy flavonone (1), has been isolated from the leaves extract of Zanthoxylum budrunga and its structure was established on the basis of structural evidence. This is the first report of its occurrence from the plant. The compound (1) showed significant antimicrobial activity against a number of pathogenic bacteria and fungi. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the compound (1) was found to be 16μg ml‾1 against Staphylococcus aureus. The compound showed prominent cytotoxic activity the LC50 and LC90 values of the compound (1) were found to be 16.24 and 56.56μg ml‾1, respectively.
