Stem Cells for Treating Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease
Sarder Nasir Uddin and Md. Eunus Ali

Abstract: The aim of this study to find out and accumulate the possible way of recent treatments of ankylosing spondylitis specially by using Stem Cells. There is accumulating evidence that anti-tumor-necrosis-factor (anti-TNF) therapy is highly effective in SpA, especially in ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis. In ankylosing spondylitis there is an unmet medical need, since there are almost no disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs available for severely affected patients, especially those with spinal manifestations. This review found that the replacement therapy of stem cells led to a new idea: by taking healthy stem cells from the developing goat`s bone marrow cells or human blastocyst and transplanting them into the affected area of a ankylosing spondylitis patient. The cell survives and they formed connections with the surrounding tissue. Transplantation strategies based on stem cells present enormous potential for repairing the damage caused by ankylosing spondylitis disease. Stems cells may also be preferable to other tissue, especially if they can be derived from the patient`s own body, avoiding potential immunological problems. So, stem cell replacement therapy for ankylosing spondylitis disease will some day become a therapeutic reality.
