Investigation on the Occurrence of Bacterial Flora in Hybrid Catfish (Clarias hybrid) in a commercial fish farm

Abstract: Total bacterial load in pond water, slime and kidney of fish varied from 3.6 x 103 to 2.8 x 106 CFU/ml, 3.0 x 104 to 5.7 x 108 CFU/g and 2.9 x 101 to 5.6 x 104 CFU/g respectively. Isolated bacterial genera/groups were Micrococcus, Coryneforms, Flavobacterium, Aeromonas, Pseudomonas, Enterobacteria, Bacillus, Acinetobacter and Achromobacter. Sensitivity of the isolated Aeromonads and Pseudomonads to various antibacterial agents was determined. Higher percentage of resistant Aeromonads and Pseudomonads were observed against oxytetracycline followed by erythromycin.
