Growth and Non-growth Associated Endo-xylanase and β-xylosidase Production by a Mutant Derivative of Cellulomonas biazotea

Abstract:
Secretion of endo-xylanase and intracellular biosynthesis of β-xylosidase by rifampin resistant mutant of Cellulomonas biazotea from xylan, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) or lignocellulosic (LC) substrates in shake flask culture studies followed logistic cum Luedeking-Piret equations. Values of growth (α-IU/g cells) and non-growth associated (αIU/g cells h) product parameters were fairly high which implied that the enzyme production was both growth as well as non-growth associated. In both cases, enzyme production was significantly (p<=5) altered in the mutant. Both enzyme production modes were regulated by substrate consumption parameters and changed on the expense of each other.
