Synthesis of Two Vanillin Ring Containing Flavones by Different Methods and Studies of Their Antibacterial and Antifungal Activities

Abstract:
Two 2`-oxygenated flavones have been synthesized from vanillin via chalcone precursor and their antibacterial and antifungal activity were investigated along with their corresponding chalcones against three human pathogenic bacterial and five molds fungal strains. Compounds 6 and 7 show good antibacterial and antifungal activity against the selected organisms. The structure of the synthetic compounds have been characterized using UV-Vis, IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectral data together with elemental analysis.
