ABSTRACT
Some innovation network architectures, such as Software Defined Network (SDN) and Information-Centric Networking (ICN) attract more and more interest in recently years. Network virtualization and reconfigurable are the basis of these new network technologies. Besides theoretical study, a large amount of research works should be done to test and verify the assumptions on the testbeds. Some large-scale research network test platforms are designed. But they are not suitable for researchers to carry out small-scale network virtualization experiment, because they are quite complexity or still at primary stages. However, the software platforms are unable to simulate the real network traffic and test the efficiency of application software. Therefore, it would be a better choice to design a small-scale virtualization testbed that cost less and can be easily deployed. In this study, we design a small-scale reconfigurable network emulation testbed called RNET, based on Click Modular Router, especially for the new network paradigms research work. Through a lot of independent experiments which using multiple protocols and different kinds of applications, we conclude that RNET would be an efficient testbed for future network researches.
