Observations were taken on plant height, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 100-grain weight, biological yield per plant, harvest index and grain yield per plant. All these characters were positively and highly significantly associated with grain yield except harvest index, which showed highly significant but negative correlation with grain yield. Harvest index had maximum direct effect on grain yield followed by biological yield per plant. Direct effect of plant height, number of pods per plant and 100-grain weight on grain yield was small but great indirect effects via biological yield resulted in their highly significant correlation with grain yield.
