  A field experiment was conducted in the research field of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh, during the period from December 2003 to March 2004 to study the effect of GABA on growth and yield attributes of onion (cv. BARI peaj-1). The experimental field was medium fertile and silt loam in texture. Effect of GABA (a mixture of GA3 and STC4771) sprayed at 30 DAT with 0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg L-1 was investigated. The treatments were laid out in one factorial RCBD design where each treatment was replicated five times. All morphological characters, growth and yield attributes were significantly affected by the application of GABA, which at 1.0 mg L-1 produced the highest plant height, leaf length, number of leaves, neck and bulb diameter, bulb length, leaf diameter, root length; fresh weight of bulbs, roots and leaves; splitting of bulbs, leaf and bulb yield of onion. GABA at 1.0 mg L-1 was more effective in enhancing growth and yield attributes than 0.5 and 2.0 mg L-1. Application of GABA at 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg L-1 increased the bulb yield by 20.18, 28.09 and 7.02%, respectively. The results suggested that GABA at 1.0 mg L-1 is suitable for onion or any vegetable crop production but GABA at 2.0 mg L-1 may be harmful for plant growth.

  An investigation on the effect of pruning height on shoot biomass yield of Leucaena leucocephala was carried out at the Agroforestry Farm, Bangladesh Agricultural University, during February to May 2005. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments included four pruning heights; 3-5 (basal cut), 50, 100 and 150 cm above the collar zone. Yield of shoot biomass increased greatly with the increase in pruning heights. Higher pruning heights had a significantly higher number of branches, length of branches and leaves per plant than those of the lower heights. The 150 cm pruning height was found to yield the highest biomass followed by the 100 cm height. The 50 cm and the basal cut were statistically similar with regard to leaf biomass. Therefore, it was concluded that a higher pruning height should be practiced in Leucaena for higher shoot biomass yield.

  A pot experiment with four transplanted aman rice varieties was carried out at the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh during aman season, 2000 to find rice cultivar, which can be used as developing suitable variety for drought affected areas of Bangladesh. Moisture stress (30% FC) was maintained during booting, flowering and grain filling stage and 100% FC in the control plants. Plant height, tiller number, panicle number, panicle length, number of filled grains per panicle, 1000-grain weight, harvest index (HI), total dry matter (TDM) and yield were decreased with stress. However, varieties response was different for most of the characters and they had different degree of reduction. Among the four varieties, Binadhan4 produced highest yield, more tillers and panicles per plant, highest 1000-grain weight and medium TDM and HI under water stress condition. Shorna showed better yield but the highest TDM and medium HI. Brridhan33 showed medium yield and TDM but the highest 1000-grain weight and HI. Binashail showed the highest TDM and plant height. But it produced lower grain yield under stress condition. Binadhan4 and Binashail may be used as developing suitable varieties for drought -affected areas of Bangladesh.
