Abstract: Background and Objective: Selecting a plant location is a very important decision for many companies. Although numerous MCDM methods have been developed to evaluate and select plant location, most of them have used normal fuzzy numbers in their calculation. Therefore, this study objective was to propose a generalized fuzzy the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) approach to support for plant location selection process from the aspects of financial and non-financial criteria. Material and Method: The proposed generalized fuzzy TOPSIS method is applied for selecting and evaluating the plant locations (i.e., A1,..., A5) in the case of a manufacturing company. In the proposed generalized fuzzy TOPSIS approach, the ratings of alternatives and importance weights of criteria for plant location selection are represented by generalized triangular fuzzy numbers. The steps of the proposed approach include: (1) Aggregate importance weights, (2) Aggregate ratings of alternative versus criteria, (3) Construct a weighted fuzzy decision matrix, (4) Calculate distances of each alternative and (5) Obtain the closeness coefficient. Results: Based on the evaluation of committee members using six criteria, the Results indicate that the best plant location is A1 which has the highest closeness coefficient value. It was also showed that the proposed method was effective in plant location evaluation for the company. Conclusion: This study has developed the extension of TOPSIS method using the generalized fuzzy numbers in order to solve the plant location selection problem. The proposed method may also be applied to solve other MCDM problems with similar settings in various industries.
